parking in connecticut

thanks to previous help from this forum, my wife and i are plannng to leave our car in
connecticut and take the metro north into manhatten for our vacation in may. looking at road maps we have narrowed down our search to areas between new haven and stamford. looking for suggestions as to safe locations to park our car (saturday am to thursday pm). if my research is right it seems to be a much shorter and less expensive trip from stamford. i will have driven 16 hours by the time we get to the new haven area so it may make more sense to park in new haven to avoid what i assume will be very heavy traffic as we get closer to manhatten. appreciate any and all help

I'll let the CT experts help you out, but BTW, it's MANHATTAN

The New Haven train station has a very nice covered secure parking garage.

We have also stayed in New Haven hotels with gated lots -- if you stay in the hotel, you can park your car in the lot and take a free shuttle bus to the train station. Marriott/Sheraton type places, but I don't remember exactly.

Many of the stations on that route just have a small open parking lot. I don't know about Stamford -- but I'm pretty sure New Haven is the first covered lot you find if driving in from the north/east (that's why we use it).

thanks very much capxxx. the new haven lot sounds like it would work. i would love the hotel parking lot idea but it just does not work on this trip, leaving nova scotia at noon on a friday should put us in new haven around 8am saturday. hopefully the excitement of nyc will keep me upright for the day. thanks again. al
