parking Boston -New York railine
I am planning to go into New York for 4 days and would like to park my car near a train station on the Boston -New York route and take the train in.So I'm looking at parking options including hotels near train stations that offer deals where you stay a night and can leave your car for the 4 days.

Assuming you aren't starting in Boston South Station, you will be looking at the Amtrak Northeast Regional Service. The following link shows the stations served:

But not all trains stop at all the stations. You need to check the actual schedule:

If you aren't too far from Boston, you can consider boarding at the Rt 128 stop in Westwood, MA. It is also a commuter rail station for the Boston's MBTA. According to MBTA website, the Westwood station has 2589 parking spots, and overnight parking is permitted for $12/day.

I know of no hotel in downtown Boston that lets you leave your car for free - either while you are there or after. I would park in Westwood as poster above mentioned.
Another option is to stay and park at a suburban hotel and get into Boston some other way - but without details about from where you are traveling or even if you live in Boston area, suggestions are impossible.

I am travelling from Northern Maine. I was hoping not to drive into New york but to take a train in and stay the night before in a hotel.I was looking for safe parking near the train lines (Amtrak) or otherwise going into New York. This could be in Mass or Rhode Island or possibly Connecticut.

Why not drive to Portland Maine and park there, and then take the DownEaster train to Boston; then change for the train for NYC? According to this, parking at Portland station is only $3/day.

Does anyone know if that parking garage at Westwood fills up? I'm thinking of taking the Acela to DC on a Friday in July, mid-day. I'm a VERY nervous traveler, and I'm already worried about not being able to park. I've gone to the Alewife T station and been shut out before. Thanks for any current info.

The garage at Westwood is gigantic, it makes Alewife look like a taco stand. Unlike Alewife, which is merely a subway terminal, this station serves commuter rail and Amtrak. It has advertising on the side that faces the highway, promoting its use, which of course they wouldn't bother with if it filled up regularly. Last time I parked there, they even had a special section for long-term Amtrak customers.
