Panama City Beach Hotel Info needed-Please

We will be taking my 80ish mom and aunt to PCB for great grand-daughter's softball tournament in mid-July. We will be staying at a motorhome park at 11930 PCB Parkway and will be going to Frank Brown Softball fields (at 16200 PCB Parkway) for games. I need to know about a nice motel/hotel for mom & aunt nearby. They are accustomed to Hampton Inns, La Quintas and Marriott Courtyard type lodging. Beachfront is not necessary, but clean and safe, preferably newer properties would be great. Since we are unfamiliar with layout of streets, it is difficult to see where we should book the room. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Front Beach Road goes along the beach and it runs parallel to Panama City Beach Parkway. Most of the hotels-motels are along Front Beach Road that are going to be convenient to the ball fields, but you can double-check that. Front Beach Road connects to PCB Parkway through a series of perpendicular roads and it's nice to get off of Front Beach Road as quickly as you can because the traffic tends to be heavy.

There are a couple of Best Western properties. Of those, I would take a look at the Best Western Casa Loma because it's a smaller property and likely to be a little more calm. There is a Holiday Inn Sunspree which is an interesting building and really a full resort hotel, but the service end leaves something to be desired and it can be pricey in season. There is a Howard Johnson's that doesn't look too bad from the exterior, but I don't know anything about it other than that. The very best properties in reasonably close proximity are two paired Marriot resorts on St. Andrews Bay. It's several miles drive and they are generally not cheap. (Perhaps others will have better suggestions in proximity to the ball fields.) Personally, I wouldn't roll the dice too much on unknown independents in PCB without a recommendation because there a lot of lackluster properties.

There is a really nice Hampton Inn called the Panama City Beach Hampton Inn. It is not actually on the beach but because it is in the City it can call themselves that. Its a newer hotel with very nice rooms. Great little pool area to boot. Check it out.
