Palm Springs - Best Mexican Restaurant? How's The Cliffhouse?
What's the best Mexican restaurant in Palm Springs area? (Food/Atmosphere)
Is The Cliffhouse a worthwhile stop to view the sunset/and is the food any good? Do we need reservations?
I hear Europa is very good from prior postings.
Thanks for your suggestions!

Hi Julie,
We were in Palm Springs Memorial Day weekend and ate at Europa and The Cliffhouse. The food at both was very good. I'm glad we had reservations, but it was a holiday weekend. At the Cliffhouse we ate outdoors. They have a lovely area outdoors, however you can't see the sunset from there. The area outdoors is closed in by the restaurant on one side, and the cliff (with waterfalls flowing down, flowers, etc) on the other.

I would recommend El Mirasol. I would NOT recommend Las Casuelas Terraza. The ambiance is great, but the food.... Have a drink there if you want a good downtown sidewalk palapa scene, then go to Mirasol on East palm Canyon for the food. Another interesting place is Edgardo's Cafe Verzcruz.
I would recommend Johannes Cosmopolitan Cuisine on Indian Canyon over Europa. Been to both many times. Or La Provence.

I should have mentioned a couple other thoughts. The Cliffhouse is pretty decent. I might be inclined to have a drink and view the sunset, as you say, then have dinner somewhere else, though the food can be very good. It is in La Quinta, east of PS about 15 miles. I think the best happy hour deal in the desert right now is at The Deck in downtown PS. It is on Palm Canyon above The Chop House. Every day from 3:30-6:30 pm the drink and appetizer menu is 50% off. This means drinks like their 'cadillac' margarita are about $3.50. You can have a basket of fish tacos and a good drink for less than 8 bucks. Solid.
For good breakfasts, try Elmer's pancake house in Palm Springs. Very reasonable.
