Page, AZ /Glen Canyon/ Lake Powell
I posted earlier on this board about an overambitious trip and I was convincd by this Board to cut the trip in half. After talking to the family I am now planning a GC visit which I will need all of your help with. However as I read all these posts to try and get educated before I submit my itinerary there is one thing I just can't get clear on.
The float trips out of Page. Is that the Colorado River or Lake Powell? Are there other choices in Glen Canyon? Or is that just a different launching area for Lake Powell. Is ther a reason to do both areas?
My guidebook is Fodor's National Parks which is great for in the Parks but not great for linking the Parks together. Any suggestion there would be helpful as well.
Thanks.

Hey, here the information you were looking for:
Glen Canyon National Recreation Area (GCNRA) spans from Northern Arizona into Central Utah. It is an expansive area. There are 6 marinas on the lake. Page, Arizona is near Wahweap and Antelope Point Marinas (about a
10-15 minute drive away). Dangling Rope marina is a floating marina 40 miles uplake. Hall's Crossing and Bullfrog (94 miles uplake) marinas are about a 5.5-6 hour drive from Page. Hite (139 miles uplake) marina is about a 7 hour drive from Page. That's probably where the confusion is.
Lake Powell (which is within the GCNRA) is 186 miles in length with nearly 2,000 miles of shoreline.
The Glen Canyon Dam (near Page, Arizona) is what backs up Lake Powell.
The Colorado, Escalante and San Juan Rivers all feed into Lake Powell.
Page is in Coconino County, but there is no place called Coconino here.
The smooth water Colorado River raft float trips leave from Page. They take you by bus through a two mile tunnel down to the base of the dam where you get onto the raft (about 15 minute drive or so from Page to base of dam). From there you get onto the raft. It is a 15 river mile trip (about 3 hours or so on the river) down to Lees Ferry where the bus picks you up and brings you back to Page (45 minute drive). Mid-way during the rafting, you would get off of the raft and walk up and see the petroglyph panel (which they interpret for you). They include cold soda pop and water for you on the raft. If you would like any food, you're welcome to bring it with you. Total tour duration is 4.5-5 hours in length.
There is a lodge at Wahweap Marina called the Lake Powell Resort. They do have Lake view and non-view rooms available.
Bryce Canyon is about 133 miles, 2.5 hour drive, from Page.
