Massaro and Santos restaurant on the Coast Guard wharf. No the big wharf with all the touristy mediocre restaurants like Gilbert's . The Fish House on Del Monte ave.

Wow, really? It was very nice when we ate there last. Maybe it has gone down hill.

I went to a baby shower at Masarro & Santos last year. Had a delicious artichoke. Yummy.

Has anyone been to Dametra Cafe in Carmel?

I am up in Berkeley and just overheard a conversation between someone from Carmel area and someone who is going down there tomorrow for her birthday. The guy said to the woman, when she asked for restaurant recs, that she HAD to go to Dametra's. She said OMG, we have reservations there tomorrow for my birthday!

From the conversation between these two and another guy from Carmel, this sounds like a place that is big with the locals.

Since we're heading up to Monterey next weekend, I'm wondering if this is worthy of a visit, since I have never heard from the Fodors community about this place!

I've only been to Dametra for drinks and dessert. The owners are very friendly and the place is always packed. The owners/staff play music and sing. I think they've expanded or are planning to expand into the storefront next door. Please report back if you go there.

As Patty mentioned the staff play music and sing and lots of people like that type of atmosphere, not my thing. Since I don't eat much Middle Eastern food I don't think I can comment objectively on the food either. I think its either your type of place or not. It's pretty popular with locals and is always packed.

Patty - had a wonderful afternoon treat at Parker Lousseau today! Will post a TR when I'm back. Thanks for the great recommendation.
