PacBell help, please!

We'll be attending a night game next week at PacBell. My question is this: after the game, will there be available transportation to get us back to our hotel? Is it possible to get a cab with umpteen million folks spilling out all at once? We're staying at the SF Marriott. I know this must be a very dumb question, but I'm sure it won't be my last.

Susan:

It's not a dumb question.

Taxis are around, but you'll have to wait in a really long line to get one.

You have about 3 options

a) wait in line for a cab
b) walk up second street, turn left on Mission, continue up to 4th St
c) take the Muni that will be waiting after the game, get off at either Montgomery or Powell station (underground), walk to your hotel

The Taxi line will be long
Walking will take a little longer than waiting in the taxi line
Riding Muni will cost $1 and afford a longer walk than the cab, but a shorter walk than walking all the way.

I'm cheap, I usually take MUNI, sometimes, if it's a nice night, I walk up Second street, it takes about 15 minutes depending on how fast you walk.

This is a link to MUNI website, special page regarding PacBell Park services

http://www.sfmuni.com/routes/pacbsvc.htm

Check out line N light rail on this website, it runs 24/7 and will take you from the park close to your hotel as it runs along Market st.

I'd take the MUNI as well.

Thanks! Since I'm lazy, my first choice is the cab, but I suppose it depends on how long the wait is. It's safe to walk at night? I'm usually pretty cautious when I'm in a strange city.

There will be large numbers of people walking up 2d to Market after the game, so even though the neighborhood is not the best (somewhat industrial and walking under freeway) safety is not an issue. The N Judah is full of Giants fans after the game, which can be fun especially when the Giants win and it is about a 5 min walk to the Marriot from the Montgomery station.

People will be walking up 3rd to Market as well as along the Embarcadero. In fact, I'd recommend walking to the Park along the Embarcadero especially since we are having such warm weather and clear views.
Go Giants!

Well okay, now that such helpful answers are pouring in...in response to the above post about warm weather: how warm is it? I'd read on this board that it got really cold at night in July and I've been planning on bringing a leather jacket. Should I nix those plans?

Do not nix those plans. Just because it is mild today means nothing for next week.

It is 107 inland today and about 74 in SF. The longer it is hot in the valley the more likely it will be cold in the city.

Fog rolls in and out, with out any real schedule. We have definitely been having less fog than what I consider typical for a SF summer. But, it's still here and it definitely chills things down at night and in the morning.

At a baseball game, you're pretty much sitting still for 3-4 hours. For that reason alone, I tend to bring a hat and a warm jacket.
