Outrigger Wailea?

Has anyone been to the Outrigger Wailea recently, (since renovation) and if so, any opinions? Will be traveling to Maui with 3 kids in tow...

I was there in May of 1999. I know the room that I stayed in was newly renovated. Was the renovation that you are speaking of occur before then? Either way, I liked the facility, and I would definately go back. It's located at a more quiet location on Maui, away from the tourist areas of Lahina and Kaanapali. Definately rent a car. I drove most of the perimeter of the island, including the Road to Hana, in a very long day. I think that 3 very lucky kids would have a great time there.

We stayed at the Outrigger Wailea in Feb. 2001 and loved it. Rooms were nicely decorated and had a small fridge for storing water, etc. Breakfast buffet was fantastic. Resort is more spread out so you don't feel crowded. Kids pool and slide area were great. It pales in comparison to the Grand Wailea but we had a great time and spent an entire day there. The Bar and Pool area restaurant were perfect. Sun sets, tiki torches come on, and live hawaiian music softly complements the crashing surf. We've stayed at the Ritz and walked through all the Wailea resorts. When we go back, we intend to spend a couple of days at the Grand Wailea just to experience the pool scene but will spend the bulk of the trip at the Outrigger for a true hawaiian vacation. Have a wonderful time!

Just got back from the Kea Lani. Just a few resorts down from the Outrigger. They are suites. Great when traveling w/ kids. Great beach (Polo Beach).
Check out the website. Kealani.com. We had a great time . My boys were in heaven. Sorry we had to leave after 10 days. Enjoy!!

Sandra,
We are going next week 2/8-2/17 for ten days, staying at the Outrigger Wailea. Our two girls are 6/8. Any must see events for kids that age? Are you boys the same age? If so, how did they do with snorkeling? Is there a beach you would recommend?
Thanks,
Gordon

We stayed at the Outrigger Wailea this past summer with four boys ages 13, 16,20 and 23. The two younger ones were very satisfied. The oldest complained about the severe lack of night life (we had stayed in Ka'anapali last trip). There is no night life in Wailea. That was part of my plan. The younger ones, my husband and I were quite satisfied with that. the pool is very nice for younger kids. They will enjoy the slides. The beach is a very short walk and beautiful. I prefer Wailea to Ka'anapali. It is a little further away from Lahaina but so what, your on vacation.

My boys at the time were 12 &10. They did fine w/ snorkeling. Have been doing it for many years. You can snorkel from the beach or take a tour. We went out on Triology. Ck w/ the hotel they are very helpful. So many beaches to chose from. Depends on what you are looking for. Go to ck out Big Beach- reminds me of the big here a home. We are out on the Eastern End of L.I. NY. Take a drive up to the volanco. Cool!!! We didn't do the road to Hana. Did do a entire island helicopter ride. Awesome!! Expensive. but worth the $$$$. Take the girls to the Maui Ocean Center. So much to do. Can't wait to go back . We are planning to go for Thanksgiving 2003. I think to the big island and Maui. Gordon, you and your family have a wonderful trip. Enjoy! Sandra

Dawn and Sandra, thank you both for your suggestions. Sandra, I was thinking of the helicopter ride, but feared the expense. Still, I thought it probably would be one of those incredible life experiences. How much could I expect to pay for 2 adults, two kids, for an around the island tour like you took? And do you remember who flew you?
Dawn, thanks for the snorkeling and pool tips. The kids have been practicing in the bathtub...with their new masks and snorkels...They can't wait, and neither can I!
Thanks again both. Gordon

We went w/ Blue Hawiaan. I think it was for the 4 of us somewhere around $800 or so. I was worth it! We had a awesome time. I believe they have a website. check it out or just ask at the hotel desk. Enjoy. Sandra
