The Rants and Raves here has many raves for Outrigger Wailea (at least it did last time I read) I was surprised the number of rants about 4 Seasons and some other more luxury hotels. I am considering Outrigger for our stay next year because it is very close to beach and my DH loves the ocean - he hates to swim in chrlorine/bromine now. But I don't particularly care for their room decor and those bathrooms at some of more upscale resorts sure look nice!

Yes, I love the Outrigger/Marriott Wailea. It is the least expensive of all the Wailea resorts but in my opinion, it has the most tropical ambiance. It is low key and not glitzy. There are many different room categories, we have stayed in them all. Oceanfront is perfect, of course; I prefer the low rise buildings over the one high rise. The grounds are sprawling, the lawns gorgeous, the pools uncrowded. The beach is rocky, you will have to walk about 3-4 minutes to Ulua Beach. Next door is the swank mall Sops at Wailea.
If you are looking for over-the-top fantasy pools, this is not your spot.

I, too, think that the Outrigger is a great place to stay in Wailea at a reasonable price...my first choice, though is Grand Champions Villas (www.mauihawaiicondo.com. I much prefer the Outrigger to the Renaissance which is in the same price range roughly.
