We have the weekend + 2 days to travel away from & back to Columbus Ohio. Ideas, suggestions other than north to Detroit drivng along Lake Erie to Cleveland as we done that. Willing to travel any direction to PA, KY, TN, or WV. March 12-15. What do you suggest. Eclectic interests

I've never been but I know of two couples who enjoy quick trips from Columbus OH and from Indianapolis, IN to the Opryland Hotel in Nashville, TN. They say it is beautiful. You might do a google search and check it out.

How about Harper's Ferry or Mt Vernon? Or drive into Canada to Niagara Falls or Niagara on the Lake or Toronto?

I'm going to recommend my hometown of Cincinnati. New contemporary arts museum, freedom center, museum center w/natural history museum, great zoo, and lots of really good restaurants (Jean Robert at Pigall's, Boca, Jeff Ruby's). Also only a 90 minute drive from Columbus. Lots to do in Northern Kentucky as well - Newport on the Levee is very popular and there is a nice aquarium there. If you need more info, let me know.

A couple of thoughts....

Drive down to the Hocking Hills, get a nice cabin with a hottub, do some hiking and relaxing. (Of course, that's so close for you, you could always save that for another time.)

Mammoth Cave National Park in KY. The cave won't be any colder now than in summer, and the place will be much less crowded. If you're really fit & adventurous, try the Wild Cave Tour - otherwise, any of the others should be interesting. Can probably still get reservations right inside the park. Could also visit some of the other small show caves in the area - Diamond Cave was pretty neat.

I was going to say Pittsburgh for the weekend, I think that is a great place to visit but.....

I would actually shoot for a bit of Spring at that time of year. We spent a couple of days in Lexington, KY a few years ago in March. Doing the horse tour loop was pretty neat. You can visit Lincolns birthplace and of course do the Sour Mash drive as well.

Some great suggestions so far. I suggest Charleston, WVa. or anywhere in West Virginia. Amish country in Ohio. Kentucky is a great idea, I would add, Louisville, Frankfort or Bardstown. Have fun deciding!

Hocking County in southern Ohio is a great area to explore. March may still be a little cold for that, but there are some great comfy B&B's and cabin rentals there as wll.

Cumberland Falls and Mammoth Cave in Kentucky are both good for a trip and you can combine both.

A second vote for Pittsburgh - the incline, Andy Warhol museum, the "strip" distric ( not what you think, other fantastic museums, Univ. of Pit campus and Nationality rooms, Shadyside, Mt Washington for drinks and dinner............... just outside Pgh, the Laurel Highlands and Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater also great caves to explore

Another option - head south to Cincinnati/Lexington

I would also suggest Fredericksbug, VA. It is less than an 8 hour drive and there is a lot packed into a little area. If you like history and/or shopping it a great place to visit.

Hocking Hills can easily be done from Columbus any weekend but is a great suggestion. The Inn at Cedar Falls has great food as well as being an interesting place to stay. I might also suggest the Boone or Asheville (NC) area. If you are wine lovers, a trip to Charlottesville (Va.) & the surrounding wineries would also be nice. There are many good, varied places to stay in both of these locations.
