Driving to Hana from Wailea
We are spending 5 nights at the FS in Wailea and want to go back to Hana one more time. How feasable is it to drive around the back side of the island, by Hana, by the airport, then back to Wailea? I hate doubling back the same way the same day! Is the road too bumpy these days?

I am not exactly sure what you mean by "the back side of the island." Are you referring to driving the southern route to Hana or driving from the north, which many refer to as the "back" of Maui (because the island looks like a woman, with Olowalu the nose, Lahaina the forehead and the north shore the back).
I believe you are asking if it possible to drive all the way around east Maui? If that is your question, then yes, it is. If you are asking about driving south from Ulapalkua and then north around east Maui, then I refer to my response to a post from yesterday.

Either way, you will have to retrace your steps from Kahului to Wailea. There is no road that goes directly from Wailea to Kaupo--you have to go upcountry to connect to the Pi`ilani Highway, the southern road to Hana.
Too bumpy is a matter of opinion. I don't think it is too bumpy, but it is the only way for my get to Kaupo, where I go quite often. When there is only one road, you learn to appreciate it, "bumps" and all.
If you do a search on this site for "Hana" you will also find other discussions on this topic.
