Thinking of taking the family to Disneyworld next summer, and am wondering about summer weather. With the heat plus humidity, is summer in Orlando bearable, or will we be so uncomfortable outdoors that it will put a damper on the trip? Thanks.

Weather report for June through August in Florida. Very hot, very humid, chance of thunderstorms daily.

People's tolerance on heat is different from one to another. Disneyworld is full of people in the summer. I suggest knowing your tolerance. If you decide to go outside, make sure to use sun block, hat/visor, wear shades, drink lotsa water, and have a good time. Lotsa people do.

We visited Orlando for a week in August with our teenage daughters many years ago. While it was certainly hot and humid, we had such a great time, especially at Disneyworld, that we didn't focus on the weather. It rained for a short time every day around 1 or so in the afternoon for a few minutes (no big deal). Just when the heat starts to get to you at Disney, it is time to enter another air-conditioned attraction or restaurant. Everything is air-conditioned in Florida. I dislike heat and humidity intensely and we had a memorable, very enjoyable experience. It is best to stay right in the park if you can, because after being busy all morning, you can head back to the hotel for a swim and a break. It is well worth the extra money for convenience.

I returned two weeks ago from our trip to WDW and Universal. It is the second time we have been there in the summer. I won't lie to you -- it is brutally hot and humid. After three days, I stopped going to the parks altogether during the day - visited in the evening only. If you have a choice and can go another time of the year, I would recommend it. However, if it's the only time you can go, then just do it. We still had a good time. You get an early start, take a break for a nice lunch (indoors) go back to the hotel for a pool break or a nap and head out again in the evening. You can survive it!

it is extremely uncomfortable outdoors in the summer, especially inland in Orlando, I live down here on the coast and still stay inside in the a/c for months out of the year, it is brutal, especially if you are not used to the heat!

I wouldn't vacation at Disney World in the summer if it was free! The crowds,
the heat - yuk! Not my idea of a good time.

As a side note...I just got the new Budget Travel Magazine and they had an article on the new Disney resort opening in December. They are taking reservations for around 77.00 per night(low season) Good price for an on property hotel.

I love it hot. You can search some of my other posts where I swear by Vegas and AZ in August. I love it. I loved Ft. Lauderdale and the Keys in the heat.
I spent 2 days in Orlando last week. First week in August. I swore I was in HELL!! I would really really reconsider it. I was dripping wet and it wasn't the rain. I am usually not so negative but even with having the room key thing for the Hard Rock Hotel and not having to wait in line I almost died.

we just returned from WDW. It is very hot and humid. Plus, it rains just about everyday or a couple of hours. The rain does not cool things down either. Expect to drink plenty of water during the day. It's not unbearable though. I guess it depends on your tolerance level. We are from the east coast where summers are hot and humid.

I consider myself a humidity tenderfoot now, having lived in southern CA for so long. But Orlando in summer wasn't too bad, actually. Pacing yourselves so that you can rest for a few minutes will help. If it turns into some kind of grim Death March from ride to ride, everyone will end up overheated and hating everyone else, no matter how many air-conditioned gift shops you're ending up in. Insist that at least every other drink stop consist of cold WATER. Pure hydration without all the sugar and caffeine and additives is key, and easier on the kidneys. Plus, it gets the kids into better habits. Sunscreen, hats and hunting down shade kept me comfortable (well, as comfortable as you can be there). As others have noted, staying in park properties is great as you can hit the pools whenever necessary. And, of course, if you can hit the park either really early in the day or late in the afternoon, you avoid the worst mid-day sun.

Another view from England. I like the heat generally, but when I took my wife and son to Orlando in August, it was too hot and humid for all of us. The first bad sign was when our glasses steamed up leaving the aircon at the airport. Waiting in line at the theme parks was painful. The temp hit over 100 F more than once. We wont be going back there at that time of year.

I wouldn't be able to stand it there in the summer. A hat would make you hotter. Sunscreen protects from burns but doesn't make it feel any cooler. The recommendation of going back to the pool midday wouldn't work for me. Being in the water makes me TIRED. Then once I'd go back to the room and felt that A/C, it would feel too good to want to leave the room again...back into the heat and the lines. Summer in Florida is not for me. I went in January when it was 70 and no crowds. Aaah, much better!

We've been to Orlando several times, always during the first two weeks in December. You do have to arrange for homework for the kids, but it's worth it. The weather can be anywhere from chilly to hot (80 and above some days) and there are virtually no lines in the parks. There is usually some waiting (like 15-30 min. max at the more popular attractions), but nothing like the two hour wait line for one of the attractions at Universal we experienced last week when were there. You can do fast pass, but that requires alot of running back and forth around the parks, which in the heat would just about kill.

Go another time, you'll have less wait time and enjoy it alot more.
