We go to Orlando every year (no Kids) last year for three week in jan/feb and stay at Vista Cay.

Done all the parks so mainly Food, Shopping (outlets mainly) and Sun. Really enjoy it every year but feel like we should try something else. Always get a car.

We done vegas for a few days then on to orlando for the remaining days and really enjoyed.

I was looking at Vegas then California with a little driving but room rates look really expensive compared in California. I really like the value i get from Orlando but feel we should try another location. So Sun, Food and shopping and maybe start with a few days in Vegas.

Any one recommend other areas of America that would give as good value ?

Orlando has incredibly cheap hotel rates versus almost any tourist area (as does Vegas in non-convention weeks) - just because there are so many thousands of rooms available.

Don;t know of anyplace else in the US with that kind of rate - esp warmer ares in winter.

ok thanks that what i was finding, even extender stay accommodation is three times the price.

Have internal flights gone up as Vegas to Orlando seems really expensive and cant find a non stop option.

why don't you try staying on the coast, At Augustine, Fort Myers, Sanibel. You can rent a condo for a week on the east coast and a week on the west coast. Destin in the panhandle is very nice. If you aren't doing the parks I would not stay in Orlando.

I'm not sure about other areas you may want to visit but you can certainly look for cheap rooms by using a room reservation search engine to get some quick rate ideas.

If i did a few days in Vegas and then over to California what area would you recommend a a good base for a few weeks in February. I have to convince my wife they will be shops (outlet).

We really like apartment style accommodation so any recommendations welcome.

Among my friends, Camarillo and Desert Hills are the two most popular outlet shopping in Southern California.

We go to Desert Hills (Cabazan) every couple of years on our way to Palm Springs. PS is more expensive in the winter but lots of hotel options in PS, Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage. We enjoy Palm Springs - shopping, dining, resort spas, the Living Desert Zoo. We usually end up at the Westin in Rancho Mirage.

If you want to be nearer the ocean consider staying in Ventura (great antiques too) and shop at Camarillo. Pretty basic lodging options though the Marriott seems to have decent online reviews. Camarillo is also 45 minutes south of Santa Barbara (but good luck with cheap lodging in SB). Looks like VRBO has options in Ventura too. You could also try other nearby coastal towns too that are close to Camarillo. From this area, you could explore Santa Barbara, Santa Ynez, visit missions, see the Reagan museum in Simi Valley, relax at the beach, travel further north (an hour and 15 minutes, or so, more with traffic) to Solvang for a day trip or further south to Malibu/Santa Monica (probably an hour but really depends on where you end up and traffic).

I m about the biggest fan of Orlando there is. My family (the wife and 3 kids) and me spend almost every July in the area to visit the Disney Parks. For the last 4 Years we have found our hotels by using http://orlando.hotelscheap.org. The rates were pretty good and the hotelrooms have been pretty nice. Only once we got a problem with a room but when we complained we instantly got a better room so it turned out ok.

Have you tried Legoland yet?
