Oregon with a 6 year old
My husband, my 6 year old and I will be in Crater Lake for 2 days in late July. Four days later we need to be in Seattle. I am trying to figure out if we should spend time in Eugene, the Oregon Coast or Portland.
Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I would pass on Eugene and head to the coast. Most of the places on the north coast have minimum stays in the summer and they book up far in advance. It is easier to find places at this late date around the Newport or Lincoln City area though. What is your budget?

Stay on the coast at Yachats or Newport, and Ocean Shores.
The scenery is spectacular throughout and in the Yachats/Newport area are Cape Perpetua, Lighthouses, Sea Lion Caves, a world class acauarium, and other wonders.
Newport and Ocean Shores have long, child-friendly beaches.
These destinations are very popular. Book rooms now.

I would also go to the coast
My favorite beach is Devil's Elbow State Park - its kind of a protected cove, there is a trail up to the lighthouse- which is usually open for tours on the weekend.
There are some caves to explore and there is a creek running down to the beach that the kids love to play in.
It is close to Florence.
I also love Portland but sounds like yu are already doing a city experience.
Another great choice for beachtowns would be Cannon Beach - closer to Portland but frequently difficult to find accomodations in the summer.

The hotel we stayed at the other week in Newport would fit your requirements perfectly! The Elizabeth Street Inn. Our room was $179, had 2 queen beds, a nice little balcony, and has an indoor pool (outdoor pools are not common here) that is perched on the bluff right over the beach. The hotel is a short walk down to Nye Beach which is a great stretch, and there are lots of good restaurants and shops at Nye Beach as well. This hotel does not have minimum stay requirements either.

Check out the Rivertide Suites in Seaside, they have an indoor pool there and it is just about a block to the ocean. There is a prom there that is fun for kids and an enclosed mall with a carousel. It is just about 10 minutes away from Cannon Beach. ***kim***
