Oregon Photography
Hey all!
I'm going to Oregon in just 2 1/2 weeks. I'm going through Salem (Any scenic things there) up to Columbia River Gorge (any good hikes?) and down the coast around the Tillamook area. What are some good places for Photos on the coast and any suggestions for a beginning photographer?

How long will you be in Salem? It is not a usual tourist destination, but it is a pretty city and there are some fun things to do. Deepwood Estate and gardens, Bush House and park, and Mission Mill Museum are the biggest draws.
Just outside of Salem is Silver Creek Falls which is a gorgeous area and great for hiking. That would be a definite spot for photography.
The fastest route from Salem to the gorge is I-5, but if you can spare a bit of time you can take 99W up through our wine country for some nice scenery.
The gorge has many great hiking trails. What are you looking for in terms of distance?

I'd completely forgotten about Silver Creek as a great place for photos, mms. Thanks!
Highway 6 to Tillamook runs along the Wilson River. There's at least one beautiful waterfall (left side of road) along the way, and several stops along the river (Jones Creek Forest Camp is one) where you could take some nice photos. Take the Three Capes scenic loop out of Tillamook for some spectacular coastal scenery.
That said, the best thing I can do for you rain monkey is to top this hoping for a response from Andrew, who REALLY knows Oregon photography.

Hi Rain Monkey,
Not too far from Salem in Silverton are the Oregon Gardens - lots of great photo opps there with things constantly blooming - especially this time of year.
Silver Creek Falls are beautiful - especially if you're able to go after a few good days of rain (larger falls). Unfortunately we've had very little rain this year and the snowpack is very low...however, given that you'll be travelling in about 2.5 weeks you should still be able to see some nice falls, but if you were going in July/August I'd probably steer you away from it as the falls would be a disappointment at that time (just because of the very little rain/snow this year).
Cape Lookout is a great hike on the coast and has great photo opps at the end of the hike - you can do a quick google search for "cape lookout" and "oregon" to get directions etc.
Also, not really much of a hike, but you can always take the 1 mile up-hill hike to the top of Multnomah Falls. Others more into hiking can probably give you better hiking recommendations around the gorge area.
Have fun!
