Scarlett, what with earthquakes, mud slides, major storms, you are getting quite the intro to the PNW! Have you had a major ice storm yet?
We were in Vancouver (WA) when the a big wind storm (60 mph winds) came through. Everyone in our development was keeping a wary eye on the one really big tree, as it was doing quite a dance in the wind (and the ground was pretty saturated from a lot of rain).
We still feel guilty about it though...the wind had been blowing hard for a while, we opened the front door to take a look and frightened off dozens of sparrows that had huddled together in our doorway for shelter. The poor wee beasties

LadyVic, glad you got the Ecola Lodge 
Watching the news about the storm makes me also glad that you will be there in September, when things will most likely be much more calm.
I would not want to be stuck out there now with no power .
