Oregon Hotel/Motel Recos
Now that I have Sept. dates for visiting Oregon, need lodging recos for towns below, and if possible, near the "touristy" area of each town. I also need a budget of $80 to $90 tops, per nite. Certainly appreciate any help.
Cannon Beach
Newport
Bandon
Brookings
Grants Pass

Hi! We were at the Cannon Beach Hotel for dinner at Gower St. tonight and the front desk clerk said their rooms are going for $75/night right now. Of course the rates will be a bit higher in Sept., but you could call them. It's a quaint hotel, just steps from the beach.
In Grants Pass, check out the Riverside Inn, we have received rates with the Entertainment Book at $60/night on Sun.-Thurs., even in the summer.
We just stayed in a Spa/King room at the Ashland Plaza Hotel last night for $109/night. Of course these are winter rates, but thought I'd post a few suggestions since you haven't received any responses yet on this forum. You could also ask on the Tripadvisor forum, where I am the Local Expert for Astoria, Oregon. Have you considered a stay there? ***kim***

Of course the rates are very low now, at the Beach. It is stormy and cold still, winter rates are low.
LadyVic, try oregoncoastlodging.com .
The Ecola Creek Lodge and The Courtyard, in town, in Cannon Beach both are lower priced but are said to be charming.
Good luck~

I would second Kims reco of Riverside Inn in Grants Pass. You may even be able to get the Weasku Inn which is a small cabin on the river. It is owned by the Riverside but is IMO a step up. In Newport check out Best Western on Agate Beach with some great views. For Roseburg...They have a touristy spot??? LOL I cant imagine staying in Roseburg myself and would likely land myself in Canyonville at Seven Feathers Casino/Hotel. I live just a ways down I-5 from Roseburg and dont see much worth stopping for. sorry to those of you in Roseburg!! =)

In Newport, the best area to stay is near Nye Beach. A well-regarded place is the Sylvia Beach Hotel, which is a hotel with a "classic book" theme. I have never stayed there but hear it is a neat place. I have seen rooms at the nextdoor Nye Beach Hotel and I have sat in their cafe reading my email (free wireless) and they might be closer to your price range. To the south there are newer chain-type hotels that might be more in your price range: a Shilo Inn and a Halmark Resort, although in September they may not be cheap on weekends.
Otherwise, most cheaper Newport hotels are along highway 101, which means road noise. You could consider the La Quinta that is on the south side of the Yaquina Bay Bridge, near the Oregon Coast Aquarium, which is a decent, clean place and probably not too noisy if you get a room away from the highway. The La Quinta would probably be in your price range too.

If you want to be near the "touristy" areas on the coast and in Ashland, I think you'll have trouble staying within your budget. Obviously kimamom is quoting low-season, and probably mid-week rates. September will be a different deal. Shouldn't have too much of a problem in Grants Pass and Roseburg though. Not much touristy about either of those towns.
I'll second Andrew's recommendation for Sylvia Beach in Newport, where I've stayed a couple times. Each room is themed after a famous author. Beware the E.A. Poe room!!! The restaurant there, Table of Contents (clever, huh), is pretty good too.
kimamom, Too bad you're having to spend so much of your precious little time in Oregon on the computer, on this and other boards. Has the weather turned bad in Seaside yet?

LOL beachbum, I picture someone walking on the beach, gale force winds and rain, holding a cup of coffee in one hand and a tiny computer in the other..perhaps a cell phone? Can you post on the internet with a cell phone?

Kim -- Thanks so much for replying; you started a chain reaction! Evidently, the Ent. Book has more than just Portland? Scarlett-- I did happen to book Ecola Lodge @ $71! Here are the others:
Newport - The Whaler Inn
Coos Bay - Edgewater Inn (had a tough time finding decent inexp. motels in Bandon).
Brookings - Best Western Brookings Inn
Grants Pass - LaQuinta
Prospect - Prospect Inn motel unit (for Crater Lake the next day)
Roseburg - Quality Inn Central
Portland - Mark Spencer
If anyone has more comments, feel free to mention. My reasoning for these towns is to keep travel time ea. day to about 2-3 hrs. (hopefully that is). I also thot Coos Bay might have more to do on a bad weather day than Bandon? But I will definitely take a look at all suggestions posted here - I still have plenty of time to make changes!

Right now, all I can think is that you are lucky to be making these plans for Sept. That is the first time we visited Cannon Beach and it was beautiful.
Today/tonight & through tomorrow, Cannon Beach is getting slammed with a big coastal storm. The hotels are all handing out candles for the guest rooms when the power goes out, they are battening down the hatches.
Not much fun to be stuck in a hotel with a big storm and no power, no wonder the rates are low

The Whaler is a nice place in Newport.
The Edgewater is also a good place as well with a very convenient supermarket next door.
When in Coos Bay DO take time to take the drive out Cape Arago Highway which IMO has some of the best views on the coast. Sunset State Park, Cape Arago, Shore Acres State Park and Botanical Gardens are all great stops.

You will not get a room in Ashland near the festival area in September for $90. If you must stick with that price, the nearest motel I can suggest is the Palm Motel across from the college and about 3/4 of a mile from downtown.

Hi, I'm frequently in Roseburg for business, and would suggest taking another look at the Holiday Inn Express. It's closer to the historic center of Roseburg, and has a nice setting along the river. It might be at the upper end of your budget, but I think you'd like the area better.
The hotel you have reserved right now is further north in a pretty nondescript/strip mall sort of area. Of course, if it's just a quick overnight stop, it may suit your purposes just fine.
Two locally-owned eating spots I'd recommend:
Anthony's Italian Cafe
Sandy's Place (deli)

I didn't weigh in on your original thread, so I haven't commented here, but I would choose other towns for enjoying your stay in Oregon.
we usally drive the coast in 3 segments, staying in Astoria the first night, Yachats (our favorite town on the coast),the second, and Gold Beach or Brookings the third night.
http://www.yachats.org
http://www.goldbeach.org
The most spectacular scenery om the Coast lies in the segment from Florence southward.
This also puts you right at the Top of the Coastal Redwoods. Hit Jedidiah Smith State Park,

then in on 199 Grants Pass and on south to Ashland.

Palm would be a good choice.
Here's some B&B's too-
http://www.abbnet.com/
or check this out to be near Crater Lake-
http://www.pinehurstinn.us
A couple of days in Ashland, one to experience the town and Valley, rafting if you want, Next up to Crater Lake from the South and on to Bend and the Deschutes River.
Head up US 97 to Hood River and down the gorge to Portland.
Sounds longer, but this route's really just wider.
There are many charming towns in Oregon, but Coos Bay, Roseburg and Prospect are less so than other options.
The route I described is what we advise our friends to do when they visit so they see the most Beautiful parts of the state, and experience Oregon's neat-o towns and cities.
Hope this doesn't upset your applecart.
PS: not sure why the links are doubling, but The right hand ones work.
