Oregon coast in early April
My husband and I want to visit the Oregon coast in early April. Will be staying in Otter Rock on the coast. What is the weather like? I've read some stuff online and it seems like it is cold and rainy. Bad time to go?

Our coast will most likely be rainy and a bit chilly. Most likely not solid downpours, but more of our usual drizzle. March/April are a hard time to really forecast around here as we could have sunny, dry warm days, or not
I would bring layers so that you will be fine whatever our weather is. The good thing, IMO, is our coast is most beautiful when it is a bit stormy.

May usually has much less rain than April. Enjoy the sand dunes and the Oregon Coast Aquarium. http://www.gonorthwest.com/Oregon/co...ttractions.htm
Are you flying in to PDX or renting a car and coming from some other place?

Thanks for replies! We are flying from Texas into Portland and renting a car. Don't mind the cool weather - beats the heat we will face a month later down here! Just was not sure about the rainy weather. Suggestions of place to go around Otther Rock and Newport would be great! We love to hike

There are some nice trails at the coast- check out this link

Also visit the Perpetua Visitors center- you can get some trail maps there. There is a nice hike to the Perpetua overlook from the visitors center- you can drive all the way to the top as well, but hiking is better.
A much harder hike to the top starts in Yachats and is called the Amanda Trail.
Another beautiful hike starts at Heceta Head State Park- you will walk up a beautiful trail to the lighthouse with fabulous views. There is a trail map close to the lighthouse showing a trail down to a beach that is accessible by walking in.
Heceta Head is my favorite beach- a nice little cove with views of the lighthouse. The lighthouse keepers former home is a B&B and is a great place to stay for a couple of nights- are you locked into the Otter Rock reservation. If it does turn out to be rainy during your stay, I can't think of a better place to curl up with a book while listening to the waves crashing in down below. They serve an amazing breakfast in the AM
So there's a few ideas for you -

It just depends on the day really, the wather on the Oregon coast can change pretty quickly. My advice is a sweater and a light jacket just in case
The drive is amazing no matter where you are on the coast. Don't forget to eat at Mo's!!
