Oregon Coast

In late February we will drive down the Oregon coast on our way to California. We want suggestions about interesting places to stay along the way. We have previously stayed in Cannon Beach, Bandon, Gold Beach, and Brookings and want ideas for other locations.

Hi Jim! You must see Astoria, OR. It is a beautiful place located directly on the Columbia River. The Maritime Museum, the Shallon Winery, Fort Clatsop and a trolley-ride along the riverfront are the highlights of this quaint, unique and historical place. www.oldoregon.com for more info.

Seaside is also very fun. Walk the prom, feed the seals at the aquarium, and shop in the great beach shops there. Have fun! Need recommends on places to eat, just ask!

You also may want to explore the town of Manzanita, just outside of Cannon Beach. Newport is also very nice with a very good aquarium. ***kim***

Kimamom, do you really work for the Astoria Chamber Of Commerce? If so, please include a disclaimer in your posts noting this.

Why are you being snippy, Andrew?
Many of your posts are about Priceline... Do you WORK for Priceline?
Generally people talk about the places they are familiar with and it sounds like Kim is familiar (and loves) the Oregon Coast... all of it, BTW.
Geez...

Kim, thanks for the suggestions. We'll definitely check out Manzanita. Andrew and TTPro, do you have any advice for us?

None from me that have not already been covered.
We love the OR and WA coasts and I always read these posts to get ideas for our own travels.
Have a great trip and I will say a sunshine prayer for you!

Jim you may also want to check out Tillamook. Tour the cheese factory there. www.tillamookcheese.com The scenery from CB down to Tillamook is just gorgeous.

If you do go to Manzanita, check out the Fireside Cafe for breakfast. Wonderful marionberry-stuffed french toast and fresh-squeezed OJ.

Nahalem has a State Park which is very nice and a street-full of antique shops there. The fishermen out on the bay are very fun to watch. Oregon Coast magazine would be a good publication for you to use as a resource for your trip. Let us know how it goes! ***kim***

Jim, if you do stay in Newport, check out the Sylvia Beach Hotel. www.sylviabeachhotel.com I have not stayed here but was researching it last summer. Very interesting place with meals served family-style in the dining room at night.

Sounds like a very unique experience. ***kim***

TxTravelPro, I am not being "snippy." But in another thread, kimamom said something about working for their chamber. See this thread:

http://www.fodors.com/forums/pgMessa...n_name=kimamom

Was she joking? If not, then she is using Fodors to promote her business. That must be against the usage policy here. At very least she should put a disclaimer indicating that she does work for them. Talking up Astoria while not revealing your connection to business there is unethical.

And if I am wrong and kimamom was just joking in that earlier thread, then I will apologize. But perhaps she should clarify that. Notice she has made no mention of this elsewhere thread.

If Kimamom won't clarify her connection to the Astoria Chamber Of Commerce (since she brought it up, after all) and she continues to promote Astoria profusely in future threads, I will report this to Fodors admin.

As for me: I never said I worked for Priceline, and I don't. I don't own Priceline stock. I don't work for biddingfortravel.com . I make nothing if people bid on Priceline. I am merely a very happy Priceline customer. If Kimamom has no connection to the chamber or to the city of Astoria, then she should say so and I will apologize for not getting the jokke.

OK, Kim, I apologize. If you were joking in the other thread, it wasn't clear. The way you are always talking up Astoria you might as well work for the Chamber.

LOL! A very prestigious businessman where I DO live relocated to Astoria ten years ago and he IS the head of the Chamber of Commerce in Astoria.

I just read in the Daily Astorian that an actress from Hollywood was visiting a friend in Astoria and decided on the spot to move there. If anyone is ever in the Godfather Book Store on Commercial, stop by and say hi to Kooky!

Arnold is visiting Seaside next month. He was in Kindergarten Cop which was shot in Astoria. At least ten mafor motion pictures have been filmed there.

I was almost an extra in Free Willy, but we had to leave to go home. That would have been fun. Maybe next movie if I'm there!

I do often JOKE to my hubby that when we retire in Astoria, I want a job at the Chamber of Commerce!! ***kim*** For those interested in what movies have been filmed in Astoria, check out www.oldoregon.com
