Oregon - Beach and Wine?

I am heading out to Oregon next week, like I do many other weeks for business, except that this time I get in at 10:00 AM and have the day to sight see on Sunday.

Would love to hit the coast and some wineries, already been to Cannon Beach. Are there any easy routes out of Portland that could take me to both? First priority would be a couple good wineries that produce pinot noir. Hitting the coast would be a great bonus.

Thanks!

It would be pushing it, but you can do it. Arriving at 10am means getting a rental car and you could be on the road by 11. From the airport, take I-205 south and then at the N Wilsonville exit, cut over to hwy99w. This bypasses Tigard and the horrendous traffic, and puts you right where many wineries begin. Head down hwy 99, but all along here, especially on roads off of this is where you will find loads of good wineries. Then around McMinnville cut over on hwy 18 towards the coast to Lincoln City. Head north on there up to hwy 6 and cut back over towards Portland, hooking up with hwy 26. Nice loop, and this time of year you will still have lots of daylight. It will be a VERY long day, so make sure that you are not too tired and especially that you are spitting at the wineries.

Thanks so much mms... I may just hit the wineries and then come back to Portland. I have already been to my must see beach in OR (Cannon Beach). Really just wanted to see the ocean as I really miss it, grew up in Puerto Rico.

monica--That sounds much better I live just a few minutes from the wineries, so here is your heads up...the police have a very heavy presence in this area, for speeding and drinking and driving. On hwy99w, the speed limit goes back and forth between 25 and 55, so you have to really pay attention. In Dundee, traffic backs up and it can be quite slow on the weekends. Definitely get off of 99 and visit some of the wineries off of the "blue tourist sign path" as I call it, lol. The smaller wineries make some amazing wines, at a fraction of the big name places...and quite often the wine is much better. A really good winery is Grochau Cellars, and he moved his facility to downtown Portland. On Sunday the 13th, he is having a preharvest open house/release from noon til 5, so if you get back to downtown in time definitely stop by. He makes fantastic wines!

I hope you are able to come over to the coast! We are having some gorgeous weather today in Seaside, we just returned from some time at the ocean, soaking in the beauty of the area. Enjoy your trip~ ***kim***
