One day/night in Buffalo
Hello, my wife and I are flying into Buffalo on Saturday morning 8/29 and are considering spending the day there and overnight before heading to Niagara Falls on Sunday/Sunday night and then off to Toronto for 4 nights.
Aside from Anchor Bar, can anyone recommend things to do in or around Buffalo on a saturday afternoon?
How about nightlife? Any bar recommendations for a saturday night? We are in our late 20s.
Thanks!

Hello from Buffalo! You don't say what your interests are but a few websites that you might find useful are www.visitbuffaloniagara.org www.elmwoodartfest.org and www.openairbuffalo.org. The three main areas where you'll find restaurants, bars and shops are Elmwood Ave., Hertel Ave. and Allen St. Chippewa Ave. is known for it's bars. If I were you I would have Buffalo wings for lunch or an afternoon snack and visit one of Buffalo's great restaurants for dinner. I would pick LaNova on West Ferry, Gabriel's Gate on Allen or Cole's on Elmwood over Anchor Bar.
Next Saturday there is an arts festival on Elmwood. I have also heard great things about the open air bus tour of historical and architectural attractions.
A nice spot for a drink at night is Shanghai Red's which is on the water.
Post back with more details about what you're looking for and I can be of more help. What kind of nightlife are you looking for? Dance club? Upscale? Corner bar?

If you have any interest in Frank Lloyd Wright... there is an excellent example of his work under a 22 million dollar restoration at the Darwin Martin House...
As Kathy posted, the Elmwood arts festival would be a great stop... there are three performance stages and the whole thing is a funky, artsy, hippy thing that fits the neighborhood... arts crafts food and music... ...
If you are looking for a place to stay, consider the Hampton Inn on Chippewa... right in the heart of the bars, you can stumble back to your room... Have Fun!

thanks for your help! i think we'll get wings at cole's, then go to the Elmwood Art Fest, then to a nice dinner and off to Chippewa. Is Chippewa Ave anywhere near the Hyatt on Huron and Pearl Streets? that's where we're staying.. not a big deal if we need to take a taxi to get there but just wondering. i've also heard there is a good famous pancake place in buffalo? is that true and really worth it?
and while i'm at it, any good hotel recommendations for the canada side of the falls? would like a good view and walking distance to one of the casinos. thanks!

Chippewa is one block from your hotel... and one short walk.... the only Pancake place I can think of is called Original Pancake house but that's nothing special...
Canadian hotels by the Casino include Embassy Suites, The Oakes Hotel and the Fallsview casino itself all are nice...

Do you need any restaurant recommendations for Saturday? Tell us what you like and we'll find you a number of great restaurants. For breakfast, try Betty's which is in the Allentown/Elmwood area. You may find a line, but it's worth it. Also, Town and Ambrosia on Elmwood are good for breakfast. Chippewa bars can get a little college aged, if you're looking for something older try some of the spots on Elmwood or 31 Club at Johnson Park and Elmwood is one of the new premier restaurants with an upscale bar crowd.
