Options for 2 days Trip - Romantic Gateway in /around north CA

Happy Holidays !!

I know we are not there yet, but can't wait for the holiday season to kick in ..

I am looking for suggestions for some cute/romantic places in and around silicon valley/north California. I got married recently and so this is going to be our firs Thanksgiving together. I am looking for suggestion for romantic getaway's where we can spend couple of days. Driving shouldn;t be a problem unless it's more than 5-6 hours.

I live in Santa Clara .. so the Options I was considering ..
1. Staying closer to Big Sur or Caramel , going Hiking or doing local stuff during the day
2. Morro Bay and Solvang we have been there once during the day time
3. Finding a cabin around clear lake, up north from San Francisco

Planning to do 2 days trip , suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

One of the most romantic places that I have stayed is the Ventana Inn at Big Sur.

If you can save your pennies, I highly recommend the Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite as one of the most romantic things I have ever done. And I am NOT a lovey dovey cuddly fuddley type. Expensive as hell but for two days I was love struck. Might of had something to do with the company I was with too.

I just called them and they have openings the weekend of the 25th but the price is a ridiculous 450 a night.

Phone: (801) 559-4884

Our friendly agents are available to help you with your Yosemite reservation:
*Monday - Friday: 7 am to 8 pm PST
*Saturday & Sunday: 7 am to 7 pm PST

I'm not sure what is open in Yosemite in the winter, but Curry Village has cabins and Yosemite Lodge is fairly nice. You could certainly still eat @ the Awahnee.

I haven't done this yet, but a day of hiking at Pinnacles National Monument is on my list.

There is plenty to do around Carmel/Monterey for a couple of days. Pt. Lobos, etc.

Maybe a drive thru Redwoods National Park---hike Prairie Creek area go tidepooling @ Patricks Point State Park.

My immediate reaction is Carmel. Or the Monterey peninsula.

We live in San Jose, and the Monterey Peninsula is our go-to place for a weekend getaway.

We did however just get back from the Mendocino coast, and I can't recommend that area highly enough. It is a bit of a drive though - it took us about 4.5 hours from San Jose to Fort Bragg. We went for 2 nights and would do it again. The main towns in that area are Mendocino and Fort Bragg - for romance, Mendocino is the clear choice. There are other little communities along the coast that have inns and lodges.

The Timber Cove Inn, 13 miles north of Jenner, on the coast. Very romantic and gorgeous scenery.

I second the Timber Cove Inn. Only 90 miles from San Francisco. Very romantic and isolated and incredible scenery.

Big Sur and Carmel-by-the-Sea are perfect for romantic getaways! You could stay in a nice B&B in Carmel-by-the-Sea, have a nice dinner at Casanova's or Mission Ranch, hike Point Lobos and shop. You can also take a side trip to Carmel Valley Village (15 minutes from Carmel) for wine tasting.

In Big Sur you could hike at Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park to check out McWay Falls and have lunch at Nepenthe's overlooking the Big Sur coast. You could even break it up and stay one night in Carmel and one in Big Sur. Ventana Inn & Spa is a perfect place for romance!

I live in SF and spur of the moment went down to the Carmel/Pacific Grove area this weekend. Great weather--other than the rain on Friday it was clear and sunny until the fog rolled in late afternoon. Hiked in Point Lobos, had dinner in Carmel, did a little wine drinking, went running on the coast each morning. It was so relaxing. Wish I were still there! The central coast is gorgeous.

I stayed with friends so don't have any accommodation recomendations. We had dinner at Bicyclette and also Basil. Both were good and inexpensive (for Carmel).
