Opinions on Richmond, VA please.

I'm being shipped to Richmond, VA for two weeks for work. I'll have nights off. What's a decent business friendly hotel? What is there to do after hours? How far is it to the ocean? Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I've only been through Richmond once, but I do know that the Schokoe Slip/Bottom and The Fan are areas with nightlife, the Fan is more college student based since VCU is nearby.

Richmond is a 2-3 hours away from Virginia Beach, but would make a nice easy day or overnight trip on a weekend.

Where are you going to be working? That will narrow down where you want to stay. The James River cuts the town in half, and if you're working on the north side of the river you do not want to stay on the south side - rush hour traffic is horrible crossing the James.

Notsure where I'll be staying. I'll most likely be working from the hotel alot, so I suppose it's flexible.

VA Beach is only about 2 hours drive from downtown Richmond--so long as you avoid rush hour on either end. Shockoe Bottom is the place to be. There's a very good Omni hotel there. Carytown (need a car to get there) is good area for cafes, music, little bit of street shopping. Don't miss the museums in Richmond: VA Museum of Fine Arts one of the best art museums in the US; Museum of the Confederacy; VA Historical Society Museum; Petersburg National Battlefield museum (45 min. drive south); Hollywood Cemetary (4 Presidents); State Capitol, etc. etc.
