one night in Charleston, SC
We are staying one week in a timeshare on Hilton Head at the end of October. During the week we plan to do a day trip to Savannah and also to Charleston. From what I've read here we will want two days in Charleston. I'm thinking of spending one night there as the drive to Hilton Head appears to be 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
Can you recommend someplace nice to stay for one night that won't be crazy expensive? Is this off season for Charleston? THANKS!

Summers in Charleston are always busy, and the hotels do consider this a "high" season. Parking stinks in the center of downtown, so you'll want to stay somewhere where you can walk to just about everything. Try the Indigo Inn. It's not very expensive and they have they're own private parking lot. You'll hardly ever have to move your car, as you'll be in the middle of everything. I think it's www.indigoinn.com . The front desk manager is Ignacious (pronounced ig-NAY-shus) and he's super nice. Indigo Inn also owns a B&B across the street called the Jasmine House. A little more expensive, but really nice (in the house, not the carriage house). Have fun and spend more time in Charleston. I personally do not like Savannah at all.
