I apologize. I was not trying to be provacative. I just wanted to find out if there were any personal experiences with this particular hotel. It's a family with children traveling to the D.C. area. There are so many places to choose from and was only wondering if it is a good choice.

In answer to the *original* question - - I stayed at this hotel with my children and found it to be very nice and the location is convenient and safe. We were pleased with the size, comfort and cleanliness of our room. We liked the price of $149/n which is a "deal" for DC. The family enjoyed the pool. The staff was warm, helpful and friendly. I highly recommend this hotel. It's suitable for family or individual traveling alone.

I think the Omni Shoreham is fine too, especially if having a pool is an asset for the kids as not that many city hotels have pools. It's a big convention type hotel, goodish location, but there are many others more centrally located. If you're visiting over a weekend you can get some pretty great rates closer to downtown DC. What are your price points and when are you visiting?

The most important thing to me is staying in a safe area or should I say as safe as you can be in a large city. Some of the reviews have been interesting when I've looked into reserving L'Enfant or the Embassy Suites or the Holiday Inn Capital. Things like: "Nice hotel, but questionable clientele in the evening" or "The hotel was fine if you're not high maintenance." Not sure what to make of those comments, so when there's doubt don't do it is my motto
I've heard that DuPont Circle/North West D.C. is the area to be in? I've decided to leave my car at home, fly in, and just use the metro to get around. I'd like to go to church on Sunday to the National Cathedral and the Omni is right down the road from Georgetown. I'd like to spend no more than $150 - $250/night.
Thank you again for your advice.

I don't think of the Omni as being near Gtown, but it is probably a cheap cab ride. It is near the Cathedral, you could arguably walk. It is a very safe neighborhood, as are almost any neighborhood with hotels used by tourists. DC is very safe in terms of anywhere a tourist is likely to go.

I've stayed there a few times, always comes up for me on Priceline, I think around the $75 per night, you can check on betterbidding.com or biddingfortravel.com what the price and likelihood of getting it.
I think it's a great location, it's next to the Metro, good variety of restaurants within a 2 minute walk and close to the zoo.
One small thing, the hotel doors really have strong springs that cause a loud noise when you let the door close. On arrival at about 11pm I managed to let the door slam close about 5 times in a 10 minute period.

I think any of the hotels you've cited would be fine. I have no idea what that comment about l'Enfant means regarding "clientele" in the evening. I used to work across the street and it's a perfectly decent hotel that has a lot of good deals for families. It is very convenient to the museums. Only issue is it's in a business/govt building area so there aren't a lot of stores or places to eat on the street right around it. I doubt if that hotel has questionable "clientele", which to me sounds like hookers in the hotel.
Some families like that hotel, not only for good rates and convenient, but because it has a pool. It has decent restaurants in it of various levels.
I'd rather stay at the Omni as you can go to small restaurants in the area. If not for that, it might not matter.

The area around the Omni is safe and walkable at night. althought the National Cathedral is withing walking distance, it is all uphill. You may want to cab it up and walk back down. Just be sure that you have a map to follow. We made a wrong turn that seemed to be in the right direction and ended up closer to Dupont Cirle than Woodley Park.

We stayed at the Omni in October 2010 and liked it very much. We are a 50-something couple traveling without children; chose the Omni for price, location and Trip Advisor reviews. We joined the Omni's loyalty program and received 2 complimentary morning beverages delivered to our room each day. We went to the CVS across the street, bought cereal, milk, bowls and spoons and had juice and hot beverages delivered each morning. The room had a small fridge, walk-in closet and laptop safe. Our first morning we enjoyed the buffet at Robert's in the hotel but that was too expensive and took too much time to do each day so we had our cereal and got out touring more speedily.
We took the Metro one stop to Cleveland Park for lunch at Lavandou then walked to the Cathedral. We did not know it was uphill or should have planned differently. Visiting the Cathedral was a highlight of our trip.
Open City across the street was our favorite restaurant in the area. Don't miss the mac & cheese. One of the hop on/off bus tours stops across the street and there was an Indian store around the corner with beautiful scarves.
If I ever go back to DC I would want to stay there again.
