Oceanside, CA hotels

DH has had to go to Oceanside for business, and he has a few future trips there as well. So far he has stayed at the Holiday Inn Express, but isn't all that pleased. Any other suggestions? I checked TripAdvisor and HIE was rated #1, so I think he might be out of luck. Any suggestions?

Will he have a car? Does he mind staying in other nearby neighborhoods?

Yes, he will have a car. And he is willing to drive a bit if the hotel is worth it. Since it is for work, he doesn't need luxury, but at least something along the lines of most HIE's or Hampton Inn's.

Try not to stay in Oceanside..
I would go south to Carlsbad or Encinitas which are lovely towns and the commute is 15-20 minutes.
Del Mar Marriott on Expedia is going for $220 a night and will take you about 30 minutes to Oceanside.
Let us know the budget and if you don't mind driving 15-30 minutes, as long as you do have a car and we'll get you a nice place for you and your honey to enjoy in SD!

Tahiti--Oh, no...it is just DH. For now at least He has to go check up on things for work occassionally, and the place is in Oceanside. So he just needs something decent for himself. I don't think he would want to go more than 20 minutes from there. I will ask him tonight. Normally the HIE's are fine, but he said this one the bedding smelled of smoke even though he has had nonsmoking rooms. I am pretty sure it is all the bedding being washed together. But that has happened twice now on his stays there.

There really aren't many hotels in Oceanside although the city is not as bad as TahitiTams makes it out to be. If I had to be in Oceanside for business, I would stay in Carlsbad. As Tahiti said, its about a 15 minute drive and you will be going against traffic.

The Holiday Inn Express you mentioned is probably the best hotel in Oceanside although it is closer to Carlsbad and Vista than other hotels (right off the 78 freeway). The West Inn Suites and the Hilton Garden Inn in Carlsbad get good reviews. They are both convenient to the freeway particularly the West Inn Suites.

Paula..let's be nice now..

mms..
I would go for Carlsbad and they have some decent hotels right off the I/5..
Here is a website that gives you a better idea for the hotels in the area.

Tahiti-Sounds good. I wouldn't stay in Oceanside either except at the Holiday Inn mms mentioned. I do think Oceanside has really made an attempt to clean up and be more tourist friendly. But they certainly don't have any good hotels.

Thank you both! I will show him that website tonight. I am not familiar with this area, but he is. So he will know where all of these places are, which makes it easier for him to decide. Thanks!

Tahiti and Paula--I am sure I will have more questions for you, lol! He was funny this morning. He knew I would know where to find the answers He did mention that where he has to go is about 4 miles east of the HIE. Maybe that gives you a better idea of where to stay? If nothing else, I told him to have a chat with the manager to let him/her know that the odor is driving away a customer.

mms-Well if he is going 4 miles east of the HIE then he is either in or very close to Vista. Can't think of any hotels right off the bat but will look into it. I think there is a Hampton Inn in San Marcos that is decent.

We chatted a bit about this this weekend. He said right now the place he goes to is in Oceanside, but about where it borders with Carlsbad. So the Carlsbad hotels would be fine. After the first of the year, he will be going to Carlsbad. So guess we will look for just that area. He did go ahead and book the HIE at Oceanside for his upcoming trip. He will be needing to go down about once a month for a while. Depending on how it works with the kids schedules, we may tag along for a trip at some point. So again, any suggestions are welcome and are much appreciated

Hi mms- My daughter used to live in Carlsbad - It is my favorite place in Southern Cal - I really love it there.
Of course the best hotel in the area is the Four Seasons if you can get your husbands company to foot the bill for that -

I never had a reason to stay at a hotel when I was there but the Beach Terrace Inn always looked interesting to me - the only one that is beachfront

I hope you get to go on some trips with him - I hope to spend a lot more time there when I retire.

DH is headed down there again this week. He is staying at hte HIE this time, but will try some Carlsbad places on future trips.

I need a bit more help though. He is looking for a route to go run. He is nursing a knee injury, so only looking for about a 4-5 mile route from the hotel. He would go early morning, not in the evenings. Any suggestions?

I don't really know any running routes but since the hotel is right by the freeway, I would probably drive over to the beach and run there.

DH is back down there for a night. He is staying at the Hilton Garden Inn in Carlsbad since it has a workout facility. Now if we can just work one of these trips around the kids schedule so that I can tag along

Let us know and we can have a mini GTG. At least meet for a drink. Some good places to eat in Carlbad. Jay's is one of my favorites.
