Oakland to Yountville

We arrive this April on a Saturday in Oakland and are planning on renting a car and driving to Yountville. What is fastest way to get there? On the way back we wil be coming from Sonoma, any suggestions of where to stop on our way back to Oakland ? Our flight leaves @ 5:40PM....

The directions on mapquest.com
are spot on. Put Oakland International
in the "From" box and your Yountville
address in the "To" box.

You can backtrack the same way from Sonoma on HWY 12/121. That will connect
tou right into HWY 29 at Napa.

Why do you want to stop on your way
back to Oakland? The I-80/880
corridor can be S_L_O_W unless you are traveling between midnight and 4AM-
What day are you flying out on ?

Hi, we used to live in Sonoma and if going to Oakland in the afternoon, we would take the 37 to the 101, to the Richmond Bridge (580)over to the 80. Much faster given the horrid traffic through Napa and Vallejo. Going through Marin will give you another part of the north bay to see, too.

That's a good idea, except the Richmond-
San Rafael Bridge is currently undergoing seismic retrofit and is
somtimes down to one-lane if there is an emergency repair. Mr R5 drives this 2X day during the week.

From the CALtrans website:

"During non-peak hours, the construction lane closures may be arranged to allow traffic in one lane in each direction. Scheduled lane closures during non-peak times can be found on our website at www.RICHMONDSANRAFAELBRIDGE.com

Unfortunately, some lane closures cannot be anticipated or scheduled. In fall 2001, several unanticipated emergency repairs were required. For the safety of commuters and repair workers, the impacted lanes were closed during peak hours, resulting in traffic congestion. Repairs to the western end (Concrete Trestle section) of the bridge were required to fix holes appearing in the bridge deck due to salt-water corrosion. With continuous traffic on the bridge, these holes appear and expand rapidly. An immediate response by Caltrans to close the impacted lane, evaluate and repair the holes minimizes their potential expansion."

There have been "emergency lane closures" since 2001.

If you go this way, once you are on I-80
at Albany, this is where the traffic is
becomes sluggish. You have to go the same way regardless,if you follow the mapquest directions in reverse.

Bottom line-get out of Sonoma and on to the airport.
