Hi andreak, the least expensive way and an easy way is to take the shuttle bus to the BART station by the Oakland airport. After you go through the "under the bay" tube on BART you will get off at the Montgomery St. station. That is the second station in SF coming from Oakland. The first station is the Embarcadero station.
The Palace Hotel is across the street on New Montgomery..just cross Market and you will be right there. Have a fun time in SF!

Hi andreak, I haven't used the Oakland airport in years. I don't know about the cost of a taxi..hopefully someone else here on Fodors can tell you.
The website for the Oakland airport is: www.flyoakland.com
I think the shuttle bus from the airport to BART is something like $2.00. The fare to SF from Oakland on BART, probably around $5.00. Actually the BART website is: www.bart.gov
You can see the exact fare on their website.
I think that a taxi from SFO into SF is about $40.00 so imagine the taxi rate from Oakland would be around that also.
Anyway, check out the airport website, and the BART website, maybe that will help you make a decision that will work for you.

According to the Hilton Oakland Airport hotel website, the typical minimum fare is 60 USD.

Thank you LoveItaly and Starrsville. I checked the Bart website it and appears to be our best option. It costs about $10 roundtrip per person.
I checked shuttles, etc and they were about $45 each way. So I guess it will be the Bart.

Did I miss it somewhere -- what time are you arriving at OAK? Makes a pretty big difference re whether BART is a good idea or not.
If it is at night, or even just after regular business hours I would NOT use the Colliseum BART station. Just wouldn't consider it.

No - there is no problem w/ BART at that time of night. But there is a BIG problem w/ the Coliseum BART station at that time of night. By the time you get your luggage and catch the shuttle to BART it could easily be 7:30 or later.
Take a cab or shuttle bus to SF . . . . .
(Of you were using that station between 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. it would be better - but after the main commute crowd clears out it is not a good place to be)
