NYC with young children - hotel?
Going 3 days to NYC with 2 young children (3 and 5), would like to stay Upper West Side or just south of Central Park. Budget is $400 max. We have looked at Affinia 50, The Lucerne, On the Ave, Salisbury (sold out) and the Milburn (would appreciate any reviews on this one)

I answered on your other thread but I agree with poster claire_bluesky your dates will make a difference as to cost.
What are your expectations for the hotel? Your $'s do not go far when it comes to NYC hotels.

I'm considering the Milburn for a trip in late August, and the reviews on tripadvisor appear to be pretty good. The typical comments are that you get lots of space, it's clean and comfortable, and the furniture/decor is a bit dated. We have a 2 year old, so it's all sounding good so far! For my dates, I'm finding a queen suite for $224.00 a night. I'm very happy with that!

A few years ago we stayed at the Hotel Beacon with our two kids and two of their cousins - so 4 kids total (although they were older than yours - in the 10 - 12 year old range). Fodor's (yes, this site right here) review calls it "the Upper West Side's best buy for the price".
We were extremely happy with it. Great location. We had a sort of two-room suite as I recall since there were 6 of us. It even had a kitchen and is right across the street from Zabar's, a huge grocery/prepared foods store - which is great if you feel like skipping the restaurant scene with young kids on a night or two. I just looked at their website and a double room with kitchenette and two double beds is $235 - $325. One bedroom suites start at $295 and go up to $550.

A minor correction:
The Beacon Hotel is across the street (Broadway) from The Fairway, not Zabars. Fairway is more of a supermarket w/ prepared foods. Zabars is mostly prepared foods with some supermarket items.
Zabars is at Broadway and 80th Street.
Fairway is at Broadway and 75th Street.

We stayed at the Milburn several years ago with our two kids. We were happy with the place, felt it was clean and safe, and a good location for us. It was nice to have them in another room, and be able to shut the door.
In the mornings, we went to Zabar's or H&H Bagels to pick up food for breakfast, went to Fairway for miscellaneous items like milk. And don't forget BeardPapa's, on Broadway between 76th and 77th, for a special treat!
