Will be in NYC for 4 nights in early December. Need suggestions on good eats (price doesn't matter) in theatre district. Plus any favorite Northern Italian Restaurants for one of our nights. Shar

There are plenty of restaurants to choose from on Restaurant Row (West 46th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues). I would recommend Joe Allen on Restaurant Row.
As far as Italian restarants, I really like IL Cortile in Little Italy.

There are some excellent northern Italians in the theater district. Orso and Lattanzi are both on restaurant row. So is Barbetta (in a beautiful townhouse). Virgil's BBQ is a popular theater distrcit place. Joe Allen's is very good American food.
There are SO MANY good Italian restaurants. Il Mullino (in the village) gets the highest food rating for Italian in Zagats. I like Il Cantinori (also the village). Erminia on the upper east side (83 st) is small, very romantic and very good. (Once saw Danny DeVito & Rhea Pearlman there).

While I like Joe Allen, it is strictly for the fun atmosphere, not the food and generally not the service, both of which are simply OK.
A little further north (55th or 56th)near 7th Avenue is Red Eye Grill, great seafood and other stuff and a super place to go. A real favorite for me, and a bit more of a splurge is Osteria del Circo, with simply wonderful "northern" Italian with a real contemporary flair, and a wild "modern circus" decor. We've had some of the most effecient and friendly waiters there in all of New York.
Orso, next to Joe Allen on 46th and owned by the same people has wonderful Italian and a quiet, wonderful ambiance.

Patrick is right on the mark with his comments about Redeye Grill, Orso and Joe Allen. Just make sure you reserve at Orso a month in advance.
Another outstanding Northern Italian restaurant, not too far from the theater district on West 53rd between 6th & 7th Avenues is Remi.
