NYC short trip report: Spamalot, Wallse, and Greys Papaya

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary with a 2-night trip to NYC last week. Had a GREAT time.

Once again stayed at the Broadway Inn- the price has really gone up, but the location and comfort just make it work for us. We took the train up from the Phila. area and grabbed a hotdog before the matinee.

We really enjoyed Spamalot- we're old Monte Python fans-which definately helps.

Had our anniversary dinner at Wallse, an Austrian restaurant in Greenwich Village- highly recommend this place-everthing was wonderful.

Had another dinner at Foley's Fish House in Times Square. While the food was only good rather than great, we'd probably go again because we're suckers for a view, and sitting in the middle of TS was really special.

We spent one day walking over to Brooklyn. Had pizza at Grimaldi's (very good) and bought some chocolate at Jacques Torres shop. These were actually pretty disappointing-don't know if there aimed at "American" tastes or what, but they weren't the quality we've become used to from our trips to Europe. Oh, well, probably the only disappointment in an otherwise really nice trip! Can't wait to go back.

When did you buy the tickets for Spamalot? Were there open seats at the performance you attended?
Thanks for the trip report.

On your next trip, you might want to try Leonidas for chocolates, authentic Belgian pralines. I first had them in Europe and then found out you could get them in NYC.

How was Wallse? I've really been meaning to go there for some time. How was the menu?

Thanks for your report; it sounds like a great trip. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed Spamalot. We bought our tickets months ago and will finally see it in mid-June. I can't wait to get back to NYC!

We bought the Spamalot tickets in March. I didn't see any empty seats.

The Wallse menu online looks like the menu we saw, other then a few specials:

My step-brother and his fiancee got my step-mom tickets for Spamalot for mother's day. When they told her I was all excited, step mom did not know what it was. Pops looked like he could care less. I told her she should take me!

The show is allegedly booked VERY far in advance. Either that or my step-bro is fibbing because he forgot to get her a gift. The tickets are for months from now. He may have even said January??? Could it be that long?

I am a big Monty Python Fan.

I have been watching the marathons on BBC on thursday nights lately, nuch to my husband's dismay, I think.
