Assuming you want to sit down while you eat dessert, I would not recommend Momofuko Milk Bar, as they have no seating that I am aware of.

But they do have delicious cookies that caused me to gain about 10 pounds at the height of my addiction. And the restaurant in the basement, Ma Peche, has very good, although not inexpensive, food in a casual setting. They now serve dessert,so that is one way to try their cookies, after a meal.

Fairly convenient to your hotel location is this lovely cafe/restaurant which has very good pastry and is usually open on Sunday nights. It is world's away from Juniors Cheesecake, in every sense of the word.

Many thanks all! I see the Junior's debate will continue for infinity, probably.

I certainly didn't mean to bash Times Square -- as I said, this is DH's first trip to NYC (yet he's been all over the world practically -- go figure). And because of this he is unabashedly enthusiastic about all things NYC right now. My only concern is crowds and how soon we could be served, etc. The Marriott is a good suggestion and may well be where we end up -- DH has already mentioned that he wants to go there for the view. And a friend who worked in NYC has also recommended Triomphe - !

McLaurie -- I was simply mistaken about hotel -- DH is making the arrangements and I thought we were staying at 57/Lex. I guess UES doesn't really start until, what -- 60th ??? But again, I don't find location very limiting. We're walkers, we enjoy the subway, and then there always are taxis!

ekscrunchy - thanks for the reco for Ze! This may be perfect for dinner our first night as well! I've also heard of Cafe Linda -- any comments?

Cafe Linda is ok, but not at all in the same class as the one I linked above. Be sure to phone ahead to make sure they are open; once in a while they close for a private event.

Momofuku Milk Bar is a dessert idea for after theater. _______________________________
There are no tables, just counters so you stand, it is expensive for what you get and at nights you can get elbowed by the kid crowd.

Dafni Greek Taverna, near the Port Authority, has very good food. It's casual and fairly inexpensive. We frequently get take out from there, and split an appetizer and entree. It's an easy walk from Times Square.

Trattoria Trecolori on 47th is not a bad place if you need something very close to the theater. Their bread isn't very good, but the pasta dishes and salads are decent. It's pretty reasonably priced as well, and service is quick if you get there early.

For pre-theatre, I always suggest one of the restaurants on 9th Ave., we've always had nice meals, lot of "ethnic" cuisines and close to the theatre.
