NYC on Business this week

Will be in the city for a day later this week. Flying into LGA at 9:30 for some meeting between 11 and 3 near 42nd street. Need a nice deli in the area for an early lunch/breakfast as well as a place in the early afternoon to wind down for some cocktails/early dinner before heading back to LGA for my flight home.

Are we to assume the part of 42nd Street you'll be near is also near Times Square? That's a pretty long street.
Not sure what type of place you're looking for, but St. Andrews is a delightful Scottish sort of Pub which is a friendly place for afternoon drinks and nice early dinner (wonderful salmon offered lots of ways), lots of "singles" there too and busy after work. It's on 44th between 6th and Broadway.

Not sure about a good deli in the area (there are some bad ones like ROXY), but I'd think about going up to ABOVE at the Hilton Times Square on 42 for a late breakfast, with a nice view and atmosphere. I'm guessing you're talking about doing that about 9:30 or 10:00?

I agree with Patrick, you could be anywhere from the East River to the Hudson on 42 st. If on the East Side (where there tend to be many offices) Sarge's Deli is on 3rd ave b/w 36-37.

The east side is closer to your exit point to get to LGA, so regardless of where your meeting is, I'd head east. Go to the Campbell Apartments inside Grand Central for a drink. Then stay inside the terminal and go to Metrazur for dinner. If you want something more casual, there's a Two Boots pizza place in there along with the Oyster Bar. Get a slice of Junior's cheesecake (also inside the terminal) to take on the plane. There are buses that leave not far from the terminal if you want to be frugal or just grab a cab.

I should also add, I hear there's a pretty decent restaurant now at LGA, a branch of Tod English's Olives. I haven't tried it but I hear it's good.

Maybe this should be a new thread, but..

With te demise of anything edible on a plane, there seems to be an increase in quality food in airports.

Sorry for the hijack...8^)

Ah, now we're talking close to Grand Central Station which has a variety of places in it, from a nice food court to the famous Oyster Bar. A drink at the Campbell Apartment there would be nice too.

The Oyster Bar inside Grand Central Station is a great place for dinner. There are a couple of bars inside Grand Central Station too, Metrozur comes into mind.

Enjoy your stay.

Thanks for all the advise. Flew up and back yesterday and everything worked out great. Took NY Airport Express Bus Service for $12.00 to GCT. Walked over to Sarge's for some pastrami. After my meeting, went to Metrozur for some cocktails. Lastly..picked up some Junior's Cheesecake for the flight back.

Yes. Had some drinks and some calamari at Metrozur that were great. Sarge's Pastrami Reuben was awesome and the Cheesecake hit the spot on the flight back. Thanks again.
