Park South Hotel on East 28th is dependable--I often book visiting clients there. Also, if traveling with friends or family Park South offers rooms with two beds, which is not always the case in NYC hotels. There is a subway stop at the corner.
The Water Club is far east, right on the river, so no subways go there. You will depend upon taxis or your feet to get there, perhaps a city bus.
