NYC - Hampton Inn or Doubletree?

I have the same rate for 7 days at Hamton Inn Times Square North with breakafst and Doubletree Metropolitan without breakfast for me and my 18 ys old son. If we stay at Doubletree we'll have breakfast at the hotel, that I imagine about $ 25,00 per day for both of us. What should I choose??

Why would you have breakfast at the hotel when there are million other places - probably better - to eat?

I don't have an answer to that. My experience shows I end up having breakfast at the hotel.

If you end up staying at the Doubletree (and that's the hotel I'd choose ... it's removed from the madness of Times Square), you can find a deli within 1 block of your hotel and buy an egg sandwich or oatmeal or yogurt or whatever else you want with coffee and/or juice for $5. If you avoid sitting down in a coffeeshop or restaurant (where virtually the same thing will cost you double), you'll save money. It's up to you, but no one needs to spend more than $5 to eat breakfast in Manhattan unless they insist on sitting down in a coffee shop.

Sorry, on this one I totally disagree. Your son will much prefer Hampton Inn Times Square North and it's not smack in the middle of Times Square craziness but further north and west on 8th ave. & ~ 49 st. in Hell's kitchen. I wouldn't pick it for the free breakfast but for the proximity to Times Square which teens love, the better transportation options and the much bigger rooms. The Doubletree Met. is notorious for small rooms and it can be noisy near both a fire and police station. The breakfast at the Hampton Inn is not that great, but it's free and even if you don't use it every day, it's a convenience.
