NYC: Dorset Hotel...Still There???

In the mid 80's I used to travel to NYC frequently on business & stay @ The Dorset. Things have changed a lot in my life since then & I am wondering if The Dorset is still there? If so, any comments? Going to NYC in the Spring w/ my 15 year old son & wondering if this wld be a good place for us to stay. We will be going to theatre, museums & "just hanging out". Suggestions?

Alas it's true you can't go home again. The old Dorset on West 54th Street was torn down and is being replaced by the expansion of the Museum of Modern Art.

Are you talking about the Dorset that used to be on W. 54th Street, between 5th and 6th Avenues? Well, it is gone. Has been for a few years. The Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) bought that entire parcel of land and are currently constructing the huge museum extension.

The Warwick Hotel is still on the corner of W. 54th and 6th Ave.

How sad...how did you New Yorkers let that happen???? It was such a beautiful hotel. Whatever happened to Vince, the concierge? He used to get my Broadway tickets (never did figure out how he did that...)

The hotel might have been beautiful, but the land was worth millions. I would rather have a large beautiful modern museum than another hotel.
