I'm from Hawaii, or in other words a weather wimp!

I have a very simple 3/4 length black rain coat with quilted wool zip out lining. Bought it at Nordstroms in Portland a few years ago. It works well in everything from drizzly spring weather to arctic blasts. I layer silk underwear, wool pants, cashmere sweaters and pashmina or wool shawls for really cold days.

The zip out liner is the key in making it work in all seasons. It has served me well in San Diego, Boston, and NYC. It doesn't wrinkle, so I have even used it as a blanket on airplanes.

The best thing is that it looks good anywhere...over jeans, in a nice restaurant, or even as a bathrobe for going down the hotel hall to get ice!

If the fabric isn't already waterproofed , you might want to Scotchguard it before you wear it the first time.

I will look at the posted suggestions and hopefully will look good in the end.

I live in NYC and don't own a raincoat. I wear a knee-length wool coat in winter. For rain I use an umbrella. If it's raining a lot, even with a raincoat your feet and legs get soaked anyway. Truly--to each her own.

Mid-March weather can go in any direction. Layers are the key--you can add them or remove them as the weather changes. Friends who visited me last week in NYC were wearing fleece jackets with one or two more thin layers underneath with scarves, hats, and gloves.

If you must, get a raincoat and wear more layers underneath.

Just to clarify, I am not suggesting you buy either of the 2 coats I've linked. My point was after looking at 4 major websites, those were the only 2 coats or jackets I found with zipout lining. I think you'd be better with wool coat or some sort of quilted jacket. It may not be usable at home, but I think it might keep you warmer.

I would check ebay for a coat.
