nyc chinatown /canal street / Soho eats

Taking my teen boys to shop on Canal street need something good in the area for lunch nothing too exotic, as far as Chinese goes. Maybe even a cool place in Soho

Ummmmm, not really sure your guys will like Canal St, it's mainly jewelry, handbags, scarves, perfume, not really guy stuff. What are they looking for and we can probably give you some better ideas of where to shop.

Chinatown, the best Dim Sum spot in Mandarin Court on Mott St. They serve off of carts and will tell you what is in each dish. We are there almost every weekend. If they like shrimp they will love Dim Sum. Also each dish is about $2.00 so if they don't like it you haven't spent a fortune.

For burgers you HAVE TO GO to the White Horse, on Hudson St around 8th St. This time of year it's outdoor seating and they have THE BEST BURGERS, imho, in the city.

Tennessee Mountain in SOHO would also fit that bill.

If they want to shop downtown, I would suggest walking up Broadway, they will find some funky stores in that area. When you get up to Tower Records, which they will LOVE, turn left and head toward New York University, lots of interesting shops there and restaurants and Washington Square Park is fun. From there head up to Union Square and 14th St, some interesting stores in that area, including DSW Shoes and Filene's Basement.

Hope this helps, have a great time!!!

Il Corallo on Prince Street is excellent for the whole family. You can sit outside if you wish, they have a wood burning oven for pizza ( which also comes in individual sizes)and amazing salads that are a complete meal.
We used to go there almost every Sunday morning for my dose of cappucino ( I love the way they make it) and a salad before shopping along Spring St and the little outdoor market and Mercer and Greene Streets where I bought ethnic jewelry and stones at Lekahn ( I think that is the spelling).. there will be plenty to interest the guys on Broadway ..Also, Penang on Spring Street is very good. Maylasian/Thai food and a very interesting interior, waterfall and all.
I also agree about Tennessee Mt on Spring Street. Ribs, BBQ and french fries and burgers..nothing exotic
I would not eat ON Canal Street.
Have fun!

I respectfuly disagree with two of the opinions kindly shared on this thread.
I live in SoHo and find Il Corallo to be among the worst examples of tourist trap Italian cooking in the city.
Also, the White Horse Tavern while a lot of fun to have a cheap beer and enjoy some authentic "old New York" atmosphere (and an outdoor table), has barely passable food.
Across the street on the corner of Jane and West 4th Streets is the Corner Bistro, widely regarded as serving the best burgers in NYC every year. It never disappoints.

By the way, I love Mandarin Court.
