NYC - best time to visit, June or Oct.?

My boyfriend and I are planning a visit to NYC for the third week of June or the second week of October. It'll be my first time as a "tourist" (have been there on business a couple times) and my BFs first visit. I'm leaning towards October because I prefer cooler weather, but am interested in your opinions on the best time to go...

The city may be hotter in June, but many of the locals will be out of town for the weekend. Resturant reservations may be easier in June. October is generally a crowded time in NYC.

I think both times would be great. June would be warmer - and you could do beaches - but it sounds like you want a real city experience. October might have fewer tourists. But, honestly I don't see a lot of difference between the two.

Depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking to enjoy the nightlife then October might be a better time to visit. Young New Yorkers that can, like to escape the city for the beach in summer months. Bars and restaurants will generally be more crowded in the fall.

If that isn't important to you, then either time will be fine.

You might want to shop hotels. I've found hotel rates are higher in October due to all the conventions.
