NYC advice needed!!!

Staying in NYC 12/24 to 12/27. Need advice on:

1) Getting between LGA and the New York Hilton (1335 Ave of Americas). Two travelers. Costs? Recommendations?

2) Suggested restaurants in the Midtown West area.

3) Broadway shows. Interested in Rockettes Christmas, Wicked, Lion King and Hairspray. What shows are available through TKTS? Should I buy tickets on line and pay high service charges? Other suggestions?

All other advice and suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Many thanks,
Victor

None of the shows you mention will be available at TKTS that weekend. In fact, you're lucky if you can get any tickets for those shows at any price at this late date. (Wicked and The Lion King still are never available there and Hairplay occasionally for normal weekday performances.)
As fpr places to dine, there are hundreds (thousands) for you to choose from in that area. How about a price range and the types of foods you want?
The easiest way to get to the hotel from the airport is a cab.

PS: For that weekend, definitely order your show tickets now. You're coming at the peak time of the year for the theater! And, be happy with what you can get at this late date!

http://www.entertainment-link.com/tkts.asp is the link to check on TKTS
altho this is NOT necessarily what
will be avail in 3 wks.

Can't recommend restaurants w/o having a clue to your personal taste ..need input.

Take cab in from LAG; almost the same as 2 on the bus - circa $45

Followup on Rhea's comment: What the TKTS website shows on availability these days will be of no help whatsoever in giving you any ideas of what will be available that December 24-27 weekend. The demand for tickets now doesn't hold a candle to what it will be during the year-end holidays.

Can only ditto the above. You are visiting at the busiest time of year and have left your planning very late! (There will be more than a million NYC school kids on the street - not to mention those from the suburbs - and all those parents trying to find ways to entertain them.)

For any decent tickets move now - and be happy with whatever you get. If you're too late for normal channels you may need to go to either ebay or the on-line scalpers - and expect large premiums.

For two people cab makes the most sense - to midtown will probably be about $35-$40 with toll and tip.

For restaurants - provide info on price (and is this entree - or the whole meal including tip, tax and drinks) and types of cuisine. (Yes, this makes a difference - on another board a poster asked for recos and got lots of great answers - then it turned out all they wanted was steak.) Or try menupages.com - for info on hours, recos and specific menus for the holidays.

Very few shows have discounts during the holiday week in general, and those shows you picked rarely if ever have discounts in general. Buy tickets now, service fee and all.

1) LGA to Hilton on 6th Ave (a/k/a Ave of Americas); for a little more than cost of a taxi, you can book a limo service. If your arrival time is during busy time, this can be cost effective as limo charges a flat rate up front versus metered time of taxi. I've used Tel Aviv --- (tel. 800/222-9888 or 212/777-7777); Other limo services are Carmel (tel. 800/922-7635 or 212/666-6666) and Legends (tel. 888/LEGENDS or 888-534-3637; www.legendslimousine.com).

FYI - actually the inofoon "limos" is incorrect. You can in fact get a car service sedan for about the price of a cab - if you prefer. A real limo - stretch Caddy or Mercedes with TV, bar etc - is substantially more.
