Three nights on the Gr Central, Metro N line Anything special going on that you know about. I've got my usual list of destinations but I'm just searching for more intimate things - any special think happening on those dates.

Yes I will look at timeoutnyc and other calendars, but hoping someone here might have an inspiring idea.

Oh, btw these are a few women who are spiritually and conservative inclined, so they would be more inclined to orchestral, historical, communal, architectural, then dance halls and dark and smokey jazz. I'm inclined differently so trying to offer them some ideas.

Shamelessly topping. So far I've got the gals doing highline, a tenement museum tour, the cloisters/st john cathedral, the frick. But have yet to find any special event on those dates. thanks anyone.

Well there is an Irish Theatre and music festival going on all during the month of September.

Great selection so far. Love the Lower Eastside tenement Museum. Hope you already have tickets as they sell out. How about the 9/11 memorial which you will also need tickets for or you may end up in a long line. Have you looked at the MM of Art. Not sure if the Opera is going but that is a wonderful experience.. We have a Frommers Memorable Walks in New York City book which we enjoy as it gets you into the neighborhoods and there a few with architectural master pieces in the walks. Hop on Hop off bus is fun as you get a great over view of the City. Movie tours (have not done it but hear it is good if you love movies and want to see where they were filmed) the TV and radio Museum is very interesting and fun to visit as well. The Whitney and the Guggenheim are great museums as well. We love walking the neighborhoods so we take our walking book with us when we go. Grand Central Station is good for a look as well....Have fun.

A favorite "intimate" museum of mine is the Morgan Library, though it is a special interest collection, so it pays to check the current exhibits.

The Feast of San Gennaro, the main Little Italy street fair, is on during all your days, though your group may not enjoy the mob scene. Another "street" event on Sept 21 is the German-American Steuben Parade (Fifth Ave in the 70s).

Stop by the Flatiron Building to see the Nighthawks installation on your way to Eataly.

St Patricks Cathedral is another beautiful church to explore. Also second the Morgan Library especially for small special exhibits.....

Great ideas, thank you everyone! ellenem, I actually had just printed up the flyer for San Gennaro. It would fit in well with other places to visit on that end of the island. Shar and Sue, very helpful, as the ladies are heading to Ireland for a tour. Thank you for continued ideas!

Ellis Island...can't beat it for history.

I also found a free walking tour in Inman Park which they might enjoy. My grandparents lived down the hill, so it is familiar and would be interesting from a historical point of view rather then that of an 8 year old skipping church.

I think Ellis is still closed.

You're right! I had no idea. It says though the end of 2013.

Speaking of tours, I have used www.freetoursbyfoot.com twice for out-of-town guests (Greenwich Village & Harlem) and both were excellent w/small groups. Must make reservations in advance and nice to tip the guide at the end.

Foods of NY tours? Frick?

There are also excellent free walking tours of Central Park and this is a nice time of year to do it. We took the one that started at 5th and 75th (I think) and ended up at the Imagine Garden on the west side. We saw some beautiful parts of the park and the guide was excellent. Look up the Central Park Conservancy website for more info. There's lots of stuff that happens in CP.
