NY Weather in May

What is the weather in New York like in mid-May? Is it warm enough for shorts or is it still jacket weather? How much rainfall?

If you mean NY city - it could go ANY way. You might hit a warm spell or it could be cool. Rain is always a possibility. Look on the web for statistics. Be sure to visit Central Park if you're near it. It will be pretty then.

Probably not shorts weather, but usually one of the best months weatherwise to be in NYC.

May is the best time in NYC. Cafes open their doors on warn days, all the trees flower, and everyone is in a good mood. Memorial Day is the unofficial 1st day of summer (as it is for the entire US) and often the weather is nice enough to be at the beach.

Hard to predict at any given time. Generally it's in the 60's - 70's, but last year we were cold through most of May!! (think 30-40!) Your best bet would be to start checking the weather about 2 weeks before your travel dates to get an idea of what to pack.

Please note that shorts are not recommendd wear for adults in Midtown Manhattan. If you're biking or having a picnic in the park, or some other active pursuit, fine - but for touring midtown Manhattan keep those legs covered please. Shorts are a sure sign of the tourist. (Of course New Yorkers will wear shorts in their own neighborhoods - but for big city wear this is not exactly the height of sophistication.)
