NY taxi info needed

Anyone familiar with NY.
If I hailed a cab at E76th and 1st ave. going to Ambassador theater at W49th street, can someone tell me approx. how much this fare would be around Thursday Night 7PM.
I checked with hopstop and the say 8.80. Is this really a true estimate. I find it awfully reasonable.

I think taxis in NYC are reasonable. Sounds good to me.

That sounds about right - it's a 2-3 mile drive.

I'd leave before 7 pm for an 8 pm curtain. You will run into bad traffic around the theater and you might not get a taxi right away. You can double check $$ on http://www.nyccabfare.com/ but it sounds about right. You give 15-20% tip on top of fare.

Btw, I'm not suggesting it will take an hour to get there, just that time to find cab, time to get through traffic, if you have to collect tickets at box office etc. I'd head out at 6:30 and be early rather than worry about being late.

I'd also suggest walking to 76h and 2nd Ave, that way you are hailing a cab heading south. Probably the best way to get there would be to go through the park at 66th St and head down Broadway. You will absolutely be going through some bad traffic, so the earlier you leave the better, and if you're too early you can find a bar to grab a drink before the show.

ENJOY.

It will depend on traffic - if you're stil in the $1 rush hour time period - and how much of a tip you leave.

The price sounds right with little traffic. If it's busy figure a few $ more.

(One of the problems with hopstop is that it lists the same time for taking a trip at 7 am and at 8:30 am - which is a total fantasy. And when the time for the trip changes -so does the cost.)

I agree with the above poster. Getting a cab at 7pm will take awhile - you could get lucky though. And traffic in the Broadway area is awful.

If the driver knows what he's doing, he'll go across the park on 79th and work his way south on 7th. You'd probably save time getting off in the low to mid fifties and walk, but then again, you probably might be dressed for the occasion.
