NWA possibly going out of business

Hello,

I have a question about NWA or any airline that might go out of business before my flight? What should I do or can I do to make sure my flight is not canceled? Does the airline transfer my flight to another airline?

Sorry for the questions. I have never flown and seen NWA said they may go out of business if employees strike next week. I am 35 days away from my dream vacation and don't want it to be canceled.

Thanks in advance

They have been going out of business, on strike, or bankrupt for years. I wouldn't worry too much at this point. Just follow the news and call before you go.

kiotegirl - we usually fly USAir and the so-called experts have been predicting their demise for at least 8 years. They are still flying, and just posted a profit (finally).

From what I follow of the airline business, before any contract negotiations, the employees threaten a strike and then the management replies that a strike would cripple and damage the airline so severely it would go out of business and then there'd be no jobs left. It seems we all have gone through this uncertainty with different airlines.

The bankruptcy judge is going to rule on Monday or Tuesday of next week on whether or not it is lawful for the flight attendants to strike. The strike deadline is Tuesday, August 15th at 10:01 p.m. In the meantime, they should be negotiating. The judge would rather not rule, if possible. He wants them to come to an agreement.

We'll see what happens next week. In the meantime, there isn't much you can do.

In the meanwhile there is NOTHING you can, or should, be doing.

A lot of people are predicting that the airline and the FAs will reach an agreement simply because a strike probably would put the airline totally into liquidation.

Eventually, analysts are predicting that at least one of the major carriers will either actually liquidate or merge due to pressing economic forces (and despite continued Government intervention, loans, etc.)..perhaps it will be Northwest...does the current administration care about the economic impact in Detroit and Minneapolis and Memphis?

NWA has a good fare from LAX to DTW, but I am concerned about their financial situation. Anyone know whether the judge's order blocking the strike makes NWA less of a risk?
