Not driving in Vegas
Would like to know where it is good to stay if you don't want to drive anywhere.
I was there in 2000, drove.. but so many cars. Can you cab it to places?
Just want to go shop, eat, and see a show.

To shop, eat, and see a show you will never set foot in a car if you stay in the middle portion of the strip (Caesars, Mirage, Venetian, Paris, Bellagio, Flamingo, Harrahs, etc).
FYI...There are 7 billion cabs in Las Vegas. Going somewhere far from your hotel is not a problem.

Stay Center Strip and walk - being center makes it easier to go in either direction. Cabs are super-plentiful, but you need to get them at hotels, just get in the taxi line. If you feet give out the bus (called "Duece") is $2.00 ride or $5.00 for day pass. Free tram between Mirage & T.I. Free tram between Excalibur, Luxor and Mandalay Bay.

We thought the monorail was great when we stayed at the MGM. Definitely don't drive while you're there! It takes so long to get to and from the lots it really isn't worth it. And like everyone else said - make sure you stay on the strip. The cab lines at the places off the strip are HUGE. You could be waiting a really long time and it is a huge downer.

There is also a frequent free shuttle that runs between the Barbary Coast (mid-strip) & the Orleans.
All the foregoing info was right on the mark. Mid-Strip is the place to be but a little bit either way is O.K. preferably south like New York, New York. Lots of free transport if you run out of foot power.

The Monorail (the one you pay to ride) is practically useless in my opinion. It runs too far behind most of the hotels so by the time you have walked to it you might as well have walked on the Strip to your destination and saved the money.

$300+ is not unusual for Strip hotels. The days of "deals" and "bargains" are long gone. You might find lower rates Sun.-Thurs. but even that depends on conventions. The hotel rates are very "convention driven". You might try varying your dates a little of you can and check every single strip hotel that you are interested in. If SW flies from your city check their packages, they probably won't be too much less tho. I've noticed they often have the same rates as the hotel websites themselves.

Have you tried the hotel websites? I always find a bargain there. We also get mailers offering good rates and free upgrades all the time. Sometimes Fri & Sat nights are a bit more.
I have never paid more than $139/night and that was at Bellagio. Just had a flyer about a month ago from TI for $89/night with upgrades to Jr. Suite for $99/night.
If you like to gamble keep in mind that you can easily get a night or 2 paid for with your points too. We always end up with a couple free nights and last time 4 free buffet meals - plus $100 freeplay.
Just don't give up too easily.

It's been a while since I've come back on.
We've finally decided the 2nd week of November.
Wow $139 ... that is a good deal... looks like I wasn't so lucky!
I was surfing last night and it was at $229 at the MGM then when I went back on the net it was at $189 so I called and reserved it.
I was starting to get worried because I was surfing for flights... and now the flight has gone up $200 per person.
I am meeting my friends there so I am trying to get there about the same time.
I'll keep surfing.....
