North or South Carolina?
A holiday in October - North or South Carolina, can't make a decision as to which -who can convince me of the "fors and againsts". Every time I read a travel book on both I keep changing my mind.
Come you folks out there convince me!

What do you want to do?
If you want a mustard-based sauce for your bbq, visit SC near Columbia. If you want a vinegar-based sauce for your bbq, visit eastern NC. If you want a tomato-based sauce for your bbq, visit western NC.
You could visit Carowinds, and have feet in a different state.

IMHO - You have two choices
Charleston, SC if you want history, dining, upscale shopping, luxuary B&Bs and beaches that are temperate (but too cold to swim).
Asheville, NC if you want fall foliage, outdoor activities and fabulous mountain views.
Both if you have time.

I don't want to convince you of anything -- that sounds like you want a fight between SC and NC to break out. I will try to help you decide -- but people are right that we need to know what you're after -- and how long you want to be here.
Both have wonderful coastal attractions, both have interesting cities, and NC has some great mountains -- but both are large states, NC in particular. Do you want to visit Asheville during leaf season and see Biltmore and some great waterfalls? Do you want to walk a beach and swim in water that's still warm enough for it? Do you want a taste of Civil War history or a taste of Federal/Colonial history? Golf? Restaurants? What?
