Just wanted to say thanks to all who helped me out! We've decided to stay at Dauphine Orleans. The price was right ($257 for 3 nights, plus $20/day the 3rd person). There is a great continental breakfast and the rooms seems to have more amenities than the other hotels. Also has a great location within the FQ.
Tripadvisor.com was really helpful (especially in eliminating hotels!!). I would recommend you all using that in conjunction with the advice you get here -- it has more information on specific hotels. Although I have to say I would have never checked out Dauphine if it weren't for one of the replies I received here!
The Papa Noel rates are great -- those of your going to NOLA in December should definitely ask for those rates. When I called earlier this week before I figured Papa Noel rates existed, I was quoted much higher rates from the hotel reservation staff.
My next post will be to ask what to do and where to eat (of course, we will do our homework before I post!!!).
Thanks again! SenecaGirl
