Royal Sonesta Hotel - Bourbon Street

I can get a mid week rate of $109 a night. What is this hotel like, is the hotel as bad as some of the reviews? I can stay here in or at the Hotel Monaco for $99 a night. Which would you choose?

Sorry - this is a hotel in New Orleans, but I'm sure you guessed that!

Bad as some of the reviews?? This really surprises me. In my opinion the Royal Sonesta is one of the best hotels in NO. It's in a prime location in the heart of the French Quarter and has all the New Orleans ambience you could hope for. Unless you want to be kept awake at night, though, you should request a room overlooking the courtyard/pool rather than Bourbon Street. $109 a night is a steal!

Thanks for your reply - its just that some of the reviews on this web site are not that great - just wanted to make sure that the hotel was good.

I'm with Susan! Granted, I haven't been there in several years, but my husband opened the hotel and I'm pretty familiar with it. It was elegant initially and our last trip back, it still was beautiful. Some of those courtyard rooms have french doors opening onto the pool area. I'm amazed at your $109 rate...take it and run, unless someone knows something terrible that has happened with that hotel recently!

Thanks for your words of comfort. I will take your advce and go with the Royal Sonesta. I really want to be in the French Quarter when I'm in NO so this looks like a great deal.

It's a great hotel! If noise is an issue, don't get a room overlooking Bourbon. Otherwise, I can't imagine why reviews would be bad.

The Royal Sonesta is our favorite hotel to stay in New Orleans. We have never had a bad experience there. $109.00 a night is a steal. Ask them for a free upgrade to a pool room. If they are available they will usually accomodate you. You won't be disappointed.

Ditto the good reviews. I stayed there a few months ago (usually prefer the Ritz Carlton, but my friend wanted to stay in the Quarter). It's like an oasis in the honky tonk of the FQ, PROVIDED you don't have an exterior room. We got one with french doors overlooking the gorgeous courtyard and accessible to the pool. The rooms aren't too big, but they are comfortable and well-appointed. And the beds are great -- with luxury down coverlets and pillows and high-count cotton sheets.

UPDATE: Just went on the Sonesta website and found out if you call the Royal Sonesta directly you can get the rate of $109 a night, AND, if you stay 2 nights you get the third FREE. So my average daily rate is now $73 a night - absolute bargain!!

This is my favorite place to stay in New Orleans. I classy oasis in the midst of party town. When you've had too much, relaxation is just a few steps away!!
