NOLA airport shuttle/limo question

We are 4 adults who will either take the shuttle or hire a limo from MSY to the CBD in NO. I understand a limo should cost around $10.00 per person. How much should I tip the limo driver and, if we opt for the shuttle will that driver expect a tip, also?
If so, what is customary?
thanks, csr

I would suggest you check here for some info. http://www.1-new-orleans-hotels.net/...avel-tips.html

Most people suggest you tip like at a food place (about 15%).

We've usually taken cabs in from MSY and the last trip it was about $40 for 4 of us plus the guy was so nice and informative we tipped him 20%.

We usually tip the shuttle driver a $1 a bag. More if he has to lift Mrs Kal's shoe bag by himself. :-"

Thanks to benj and Kal.

Kal: Notwithstanding Mrs. Kal's shoe bag; is it possible to comfortably fit 4 adults and 4 or 5 pcs. of luggage into a regular cab?

Not if Kal is one of them! - but yes, we've fit 4 at a time with no problem. Some of the cabs are more like vans, anyway.

Just got back from NOLA. Cabs, limos, & vans from airport to French uater have a standard rate schedule set by the Parish. $28 for the first passenger and $12 for each passenger after that. Five people to/from the airport = $60 (not including tip)

Regular fare is $2.70 for the first 1/8 of a mile and something like .80 cents each 1/8 after that, place $1.00 for each passenger after the initial one.

Where would we catch the shuttle and do we have to call in advance?

Thanks

The shuttle is right outside baggage claim. As you walk out the door, there is a desk where you buy your ticket. You don't have to make an advanced reservation.

For the cab ride - we had the $28 flat rate for 2 people 2 years ago.

Absolutely no reason to take the shuttle at $26 for 2 people. A cab costs $28!

Dan - that's exactly what we thought. Even my frugal self sprung for the extra $2 and took a cab

I like the shuttle. Especially if this is your first time in NO. The cost is $10 per person, our driver was very informative, the wait for the van was very short, and the trip to different hotels was like a free tour.

The shuttle's been $13 per person for a year or so. They may offer a dollar or two offer for multiple people but I've never really investigated it.

I can remember when we landed in NOLA, there was a huge line waiting to sign up to take the $13 shuttle. For the two of us to take a Taxi for $28 direct to our hotel, it was a bargain.

The taxi's were huge. For 4 people, I believe it was less expensive and less hassle to take a taxi instead of the shuttle which will stop at other hotels on the way.
