No single rooms on Priceline?

I just had a look at the Priceline site, and although it looks promising, I noted that if you're a lone traveler in search of a single room in NYC, you are out of luck. I was hoping to find a decent single room for 3 or 4 nights early in June. Having to pay for a non-existent roommate seems like such a waste of money!

Any ideas?

Thanks.

The price you get on priceline is most likely a lot cheaper than any other way. Try biddingfortravel.com to get an idea of what rooms are going for.

... and many NYC hotel rooms that are designed for 2 people are smaller than rooms for 1 person in other cities.

In many if not most NYC hotels (and in many other areas as far as I can determine) the price is per room based on 1 or 2 people. Yes... there are hotels and motels in most places that offer a slightly lower rate for the solo traveler but such is not the case in NYC. Priceline only guarantyees space for two people in any room they sell and that means one bed. In some areas you may get two beds but in NYC one bed is the standard in most hotels. If you bid carefully you'll almost always get a far better price though Priceline than you could through other channels.

Thanks Sherri, thereuare and Owen for all the helpful advice! The rates I saw on biddingfortravel looked quite promising so I might just give Priceline a try!
